My life has never been the same since I found www.freerepublic.com
I was a normal kind of guy. I ate food went out for walks and even watched videos, eek! I took the wife shopping. Even talked to the wife once in awhile.
Then that fateful night of Nov 7th 2000. I had to go somewhere else to to watch the election results as I do not have Cable TV. I went to the pizza joint on rt 7 and then to my secret election watch hide out.(No one to interupt)
I wanted to watch Bush beat the socks off of Gore. I new it was going to be a great night. Little did I know I would never sleep that night or for the next 5 weeks.
It took me till the end of November to find out I was not alone. That there was a freerepublic.com.
Before I would tell people the truth and they all wouldn't have a clue or they thought, this boy is NUTS! It was a lonely life thinking Am I The Only One that sees what is going on with this country and what the liberal bias media and the leftist democrats were doing to it, let alone the Clintons and Reno.
Well to make the story short. I was watching the news and these great people were on TV saying get out of Cheneys house. There it was the sign said Freerepublic.com. I copied it down and ran to my computer. I typed it in and sure enough The NEW WORLD WAS RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES!
I think what would my life be if there was not a FR. If the rest of you were not here. That was enough to make me sit up and take notice. What can I do to make sure FR is here forever. Then I found out all I had to do was support the place and along with 70,000 other members make FR home. That we could change the world from here and with hundreds of thousands of people stopping by everyday we could tell the whole world the truth.
I would not trade all of you fine FReepers for any other world.
My life has never been the same since I found www.freerepublic.com (What about yours?)
Ok everyone has your life been the same since logging on to FR and what adventures have you had?

What on EARTH is a cultural conservative? Cultural conservatives which foremost to preserve their idea of culture. The Taliban would be examples of an Islamic cultural conservative. We have fundamentalist Christian examples -- but cultural conservatives are not limited to fundamentalists or Christians, for that matter. The important distinction is that their goal is a monopoly view on permissible lifestyles -- they favor government intrusion in things like drugs, alcohol, clothing, porn, immigration, etc etc. It is NOT freedom they are after -- it is FREEDOM FROM CHALLENGE they prefer. You'll have the "freedom" to be just like them -- and they mean to enforce that by rule of law.

What on EARTH is a cultural conservative? A "cultural" conservative to a Libertarian like jlogajan is a "neanderthal" who doesn't agree with the Libertarian/Liberal mantra of drugs, sex, and rock and roll.
Add in animal rights, pro-abortion, and pro gay marriage rhetoric and you get the gist.
The Libertarians are identical to the democrats on social issues.

I figured as much. I didn't know what it was, but I knew it was a slam. Thanks for confirming it.

A "cultural" conservative to a Libertarian like jlogajan is a "neanderthal" who doesn't agree with the Libertarian/Liberal mantra of drugs, sex, and rock and roll. Not quite. A cultural conservative wants enforcement of their view. A libertarian isn't necessarilly in favor of drugs or rock n roll. A libertarian merely believes in freedom of choice in those matters. A cultural conservative would be the type to attempt to ban dancing and rock n roll -- as has happened in localities around the US.

Howlin, look at reply #181.
"Taliban" was spit out in the second sentence.
Libertarians and Barney Frank on social issues, not a dimes worth of difference.

I should add that it is entirely possible for mainstream party members to hold libertarian views -- this is more frequently seen in Republicans than Democrats, since liberals are actually adverse to individual freedom -- contrary to the rants of cultural conservatives who see liberals and libertarians as the same. Libertarians see individual rights -- liberals see collective rights. Cultural conservatives are more like liberals in that regard. Cultural conservatives talk of "community" outweighing the "individual." Cultural conservatives are just like liberals. Same sort of thinking, just a different flavor.
To: Dane
So Dane, do you believe an individual is supreme or the "community" is supreme. Do tell. We'll soon see who resembles liberals more.

the only difference between conservatives and liberals concerns WHICH rights the state may suspend or deign to allow. They agree that the state is the SOURCE of mans' rights, and the administrator of his life.
cretins like dane or ted kennedy would have been sympathizers to the English crown had they lived during the American Revolution.

Whew, you all are morphing into Barney Frank rhetoric with each and every post.
Oh BTW, you agree with Chapaquidick Ted on social issues and you know it.
Please can the disingenossness.

I first got introduced right after the 2000 election and Bush rallies were popping up everywhere - even in liberal Kalifornia. The website I was checking referenced Free Republic for rally information. I found the site, got hooked, and religiously check for the latest news. After a while, I took the plunge and registered so I could not longer be a passive observer, but an active participant.

learn to spell. we know about you, dane. you are a socialist, statist plant. you are a disruptor who resorts to personal attacks, name calling, circular reasoning, and intellectual diarreah one would expect from a six year old.
you are illiterate, poorly read, a bully, childish and apparently either very poorly educated and/or just not very smart.
you always have to have the last word, no matter how juvenile or petty. you have never had an original thought in your reptile sized brain.
you, in short, are a pathetic example of human intellect. you are an embarassment and a liability to any side you claim to belong to. trolls and flamers like you are what has helped to reduce once courteous and reasoned debate into high school gym class.
your tactics are indistinguishable from the liberals at du.

your tactics are indistinguishable from the liberals at du(democrats underground). Whew, your reply #195 was quite a rant.
Something that I would expect from a pro-druggie whose home is du(democrats underground), IMO.
BTW, galt, you know that you are on the same side with du on drugs, just admit it.
Why the Torricelli type of rant(reply #195)?
Oops I forgot, you are a victim, never mind.

Oh don't run away from the question. Do you believe in the supremacy of the "community" or of the individual? It is a simple question. Don't run away from it. Confront it. Let us know where your sympathies truly lie.

I began lurking after reading an article in which it said one of the reasons Notra Trulock was being bashed by the Clintonista's was that he had logged on the the FR site. That's for ME! was all I thought. I joined during the 2000 election and it kept me sane.
