Let's asses the situation:

- mother in jail, soon to post $5000 bail

- mother's sister in jail, arrested for 'failing to report child abuse'. She may be out by now.

- girl in state's custody, may be assigned to foster parents, not likely to be allowed to live with her family for a long time, possibly for ever

- girl's siblings may not see their little sister for a long time

- a bunch of Freepers happy because yet another kid is liberated away from her natural family and thrown into the (long and) loving arms of the 'authorities'.

Now, the racist, statist, lookist 'concerned citizens', the ambulance chasing profession AND Hillary Clinton must be happy beyond happy. The little girl has been finally liberated from her mother, father(?), siblings, playmates, etc.

Oh, she is also fine, physically speaking.

I didn't watch much news lately (it's the weekend, you know?), but I got this from a post by .30Carbine:

According to something I heard last night, it may take up to ONE YEAR before the daughter could be ALLOWED to be reunited with her (as some 'freepers' put it) WHITE TRASH, SHOPLIFTING WHORE, also MOTHER OF THREE.

Could any of the 'concerned citizens' who advocate making other people business their own explain how could THIS heal. They were talking about a spanking/beating causing PERMANENT PSYCHOLOGICAL SCARS that the girl will live with for the rest of her life.

Could those who advocate making other people business their own explain now how forcing a 4-yr. old away from her family for up to one year NOT hurt the girl?

I'm sure they have all kinds of answers. I'm just curious what they are.

It's a challenge boys and girls AND it will make you feel good about yourselves. Perhaps you can also explain on what basis you were describing the girl's mother as 'white trash', 'whore', 'white trash whore' and 'shop lifter'.

Oh, one more thing, I haven't heard from Hillary but, last night I had the TV tuned into Fox covering the Arafat situation as I was falling asleep (this is the kind of TV programming that puts me to sleep fast). I had my eyes closed so I couldn't see the lovely facial expressions but I heard friend-of-FR and certified liar and licensed adulterer HERALDO suggesting that the girl's mother should have 'her hands broken'. She told the audience that she WAS a monster. Fox blonde Rita Cosby was, of course, in total agreement with HERALDO and so... BIZARRE, was THE FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR to one of those Arab Emirates who decided that he HAD to agree that the girl's mother was A MONSTER when asked to comment about the Arafat situation.

So, here you are people, you got HERALDO on your side now.

My secondary points are: the media would kill for ratings and, indeed, an advice to everyone to mind your own business. Seriously, there are more important things in the world AND in your personal life that need your urgent attention. Why not just leave these poor people alone and allow them to proceed with their not always happy or very secure little lives so that you could focus on your own.

The story also seems to indicate that the woman was charged with at least one count of shop lifting in the past.

She skipped town on the shoplifting charge. And guess where she shoplifted from -- a Kohl's store, the very same chain where she attempted to return merchandise! Did it ever occur to you that perhaps the merchandise she tried to get a cash refund for was stolen?

Yes, I remember that case. In fact, I had to read about that, along with a lot of other types of similar situations in my psychology classes at college. The more people nearby when a crime occurs, it is statistically less likely someone will call for help due to believing that "someone else will make the call."

People do this because they feel less compelled to help the more witnesses there are.

I saw the video -- and while videos don't lie, there's a lot they don't communicate well.

I doubt that the video would make it as evidence at trial. It is not the best evidence as to whether the child was harmed (the child is) and would therefore be prejudicial.

How did the tape get to the News outlets? I'm waiting for the mother to file suit against the store and CNN.

They use children to scam businesses. Obviously, some people see nothing wrong with using children to commit crimes. No wonder pedophiles have so much success selling their wares.

Did you notice during the press conference (after confessing to beating her child, and in great detail) that she accused Kohls (the same store she's alleged to have shoplifted from in Texas) of violating her civil rights because she's an Irish Traveler? That one had me on the floor. Poor baby--I bet she's going to sue Kohls for discimination because they happened to catch her pounding the living daylights out of her kid on their security cameras. Because she was followed around the store, tt made her have a bad day, dontcha know, so she pulled her child's hair, shook her and hit her on the head. It's all THEIR fault. Another professional victim makes her appearance on national TV.

This is true; I think, also, the opposite is true: when one does act, get involved, or call, it places the one who knows he/she would NOT act, get involved, or call into a state of mind where he/she feels compeled to JUSTIFY their LACK OF ACTION (the technical psychological word for this is "cognitive dissonance").

People would rather seek to justify their own wrong, immoral, or unethical thinking and behavior (or those whom they admire), than adjust their thinking and behavior to a way that is morally or ethically sound. They do this, sometimes, by ridiculing others who have feelings of shock over wrong behaviors or for the actions they took (i.e., calling the police for help).

I have observed cognitive dissonance on this thread, as well as a couple others related to this topic. I believe some of these people have CONDEMNED those who would help because, in their own convoluted way of thinking, they are attempting to alleviate the guilt they feel for knowing they would have done nothing.

Kohl's wouldn't have known she was whatever. Instead of playing the blame game, she had better start worrying about her daughter's civil rights. Every time she opens her mouth, she makes herself look worse.

She might do well to be concerned about the civil rights of a store not to have their merchandise ripped off. Oh well, it's only a big store robbing from the poor. They deserve what they get . . .

As a side issue, it really infuriates me that we have come to this where shoplifting is so common. If people were more basically honest, we would have to have all these cameras watching us. People have always stolen from retailers, but never to the extent we have seen in the last 40 or so years.

She could get some job training, but people don't want to hire dishonest people.

First, it has been 8 or 9 days since the beatings occurred. I know my own kids heal that quickly at times.

Second, the mother herself admitted that she hit the girl with a closed fist (see post 171).

I have not been following the story as closely.I don't know if I want to see the tape. It seems like this is beyond losing her temper. Her anger is irresponsible at the least.
