Let's asses the situation:

- mother in jail, soon to post $5000 bail

- mother's sister in jail, arrested for 'failing to report child abuse'. She may be out by now.

- girl in state's custody, may be assigned to foster parents, not likely to be allowed to live with her family for a long time, possibly for ever

- girl's siblings may not see their little sister for a long time

- a bunch of Freepers happy because yet another kid is liberated away from her natural family and thrown into the (long and) loving arms of the 'authorities'.

Now, the racist, statist, lookist 'concerned citizens', the ambulance chasing profession AND Hillary Clinton must be happy beyond happy. The little girl has been finally liberated from her mother, father(?), siblings, playmates, etc.

Oh, she is also fine, physically speaking.

I didn't watch much news lately (it's the weekend, you know?), but I got this from a post by .30Carbine:

The girl showed no visible signs of injuries, but Child Protective Services will temporarily place her with another family that is not related, prosecutor Chris Toth said Saturday. He said she was being examined at a hospital.

According to something I heard last night, it may take up to ONE YEAR before the daughter could be ALLOWED to be reunited with her (as some 'freepers' put it) WHITE TRASH, SHOPLIFTING WHORE, also MOTHER OF THREE.

Could any of the 'concerned citizens' who advocate making other people business their own explain how could THIS heal. They were talking about a spanking/beating causing PERMANENT PSYCHOLOGICAL SCARS that the girl will live with for the rest of her life.

Could those who advocate making other people business their own explain now how forcing a 4-yr. old away from her family for up to one year NOT hurt the girl?

I'm sure they have all kinds of answers. I'm just curious what they are.

It's a challenge boys and girls AND it will make you feel good about yourselves. Perhaps you can also explain on what basis you were describing the girl's mother as 'white trash', 'whore', 'white trash whore' and 'shop lifter'.

Oh, one more thing, I haven't heard from Hillary but, last night I had the TV tuned into Fox covering the Arafat situation as I was falling asleep (this is the kind of TV programming that puts me to sleep fast). I had my eyes closed so I couldn't see the lovely facial expressions but I heard friend-of-FR and certified liar and licensed adulterer HERALDO suggesting that the girl's mother should have 'her hands broken'. She told the audience that she WAS a monster. Fox blonde Rita Cosby was, of course, in total agreement with HERALDO and so... BIZARRE, was THE FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR to one of those Arab Emirates who decided that he HAD to agree that the girl's mother was A MONSTER when asked to comment about the Arafat situation.

So, here you are people, you got HERALDO on your side now.

You MUST be both PROUD and HAPPY. You were on the correct side of history.

I worked in this arena for seven years and know where you're coming from. It's very sad to see families ripped apart when there is no physical harm done.

But I would like to know a lot more about this case before judging either side. A mother who would hit her child in the face, particularly in a public place, is not playing with a full deck. What is she like when no one is watching?

I saw the video -- and while videos don't lie, there's a lot they don't communicate well.

There was certainly probable cause to issue an arrest warrent. For heaven's sake, it looked like she was shaking and whaling upon the little girl. It looked real bad.

And I know some hard-core libertarians take issue with this, but you do not have carte blanche to do what you will with your kids. The have their own rights too -- you do not have the right to beat them.

If the facts are as you presented (and I have no reason to think otherwise), then the criminal justice system should take care of it. If it doesnt, the failing is not in the pursuit and arrest, but in the trial system.

I didn't see the video. In theory, I agree with you. Usually the natural parents are better suited to care for their children than state agencies, even if they are pretty mean to their kids. A state agency is worse.

In cases where the child's life is seriously threatened, I would go with an aunt or grandmother as guardian, or as last resort, the state.

I can't say whether that is the case here.

I didn't respond on the other thread, but I can imagine that you could call the mother a bitch and still think that the best choice might be to leave the child with her. Some mothers are bitches, unfortunately, but that's usually better than the tender mercies of the state.

At times, to protect the defenseless, the state must UNFORTUNATELY intervene between parent and child. Many kids suffer unthinkable abuse at the hands of their parents and we as a society have an obligation to remove the children from those situations.

At the same time, empowering state authorities to remove a child from his/her parents is chilling. The opportunities for abuse of such power are many. The state requires at least as much scrutiny as the parents in such situations. It is a heart-wrenching dilemma. James Dobson gave a superb commentary on this quandary on his radio program about 10 years ago.

I saw this woman beat her four year-old. She put the child into a car seat and proceeded to beat the snot out of the little kid. My White Trash Meter peaked at that point.

I advocate a loving spanking now and then when the kid needs it, but the mom in question was not spanking--she was in a rage. She was not administering a spanking--she committed abuse. Anyone who does that to a child belongs in jail.

I have not kept up on this story and have only seen a short black and white clip of a mother raising an open hand and striking her child several times. [I was on an excercise bike at the gym when I saw it on a small TV]

But is there any evidence she "hit the child in the face?" I could not tell if she was spanking the child on the behind, or swatting the child on the legs.

I saw the video...or what they've been showing of it anyway and something about it doesn't seem right.

We all agree that it appears she is absolutely wailing on the poor girl, however you can't see it definitively because the "mom" is blocking the view. After the first volley, which appears to take place on the floor of the SUV, you can see the little girl bounce up and head towards the back of the vehicle....some more punches (which land (or not) out of view) Then we can see the little girl's legs moving as she appears to be sitting in her car-seat....

What I'm getting at here is....doesn't it seem strange that the little girl has no apparent injuries after what looked like she took a beating that the old Mike Tyson would have dished out????

Of course, the mother's actions are indefensible.....but if that little girl is not injured in any way, then I have to believe that she wasn't beaten as badly as it would appear.

I'm not sticking up for the mother.....I just don't have enough info to make any sort of judgment either way.....does anyone else see it the same way??

I wish that would happen as well. However, I'm afraid that because the media played again and again the video, the emotional outcry probably will determine the legal results.

Unfortunately, there's too many women giving birth to babies for status; they think it will make them look better to others, like a Rolex or a necklace.

I agree. I saw the video only once. And, although the mother was certainly swinging away, I saw nothing to indicate that they were punches, and saw not one incidence of her making contact with the child (although I'm sure she must have). Bottom line, this woman will have a very hard time getting her daughter back. Please, remember this one when some other family gets their kid taken away for a public spanking.

I really don't see how this case can warrant a trial. I think the mother should plee guilty to a lessar charge with some counseling agreement. Her child should be returned and some monitoring for a while. Why the media is out to get this woman is disturbing. I am sure that little girl is crying for her mommy right now.
