Mother to surrender in videotaped beating of girl
09/21/2002
MISHAWAKA, Ind. - A woman seen on a department store security tape punching her 4-year-old daughter plans to surrender Saturday, her attorney said Friday night.
Police have been searching for Madelyne Gorman Toogood since Sept. 13, when a camera in a department store parking lot videotaped her punching and shaking her 4-year-old daughter.
The attorney, Stephen Rosen, said Ms. Toogood is on her way to Chicago and will surrender. She is charged with felony battery to a child.
Indiana police took the search nationwide Wednesday when they released the tape. "We want to get the girl the medical attention she needs," Police Chief Anthony A. Hazen said. "We want to get her to an emergency room and let them examine her."
Ms. Toogood is also wanted in Texas on at least two warrants. Fort Worth police said one warrant involves a shoplifting charge in March. Authorities in White Settlement, a Fort Worth suburb, issued an arrest warrant on an unspecified Class C misdemeanor.
Ms. Gorman's sister, 31-year-old Margaret Daley, who authorities say was present at the time of the incident, was arrested and charged with failure to report child abuse.
Police received more than 1,000 calls about the video, which was first aired Wednesday night.
Staff writer Laurie Fox contributed to this report.
Now that she has turned herself in, we learn through Fox News that she is indeed part of the grifter network in this country. The trailer park in Texas where she lives was shown and that would explain the lack of cooperation by her family or should I say the unity exhibited by her family when this story broke.
The "fat police" were only a few years back such an absurdist satire.
Hey, if the shoe fits -- people who shoplift and punch their children in public deserve to be called "white trash".
If, however, you DID see her "performance" and commented as you did, you are a fool!
I just saw it and, while I DO feel there are numerous instances of DFCS bureaucrats grossly abusing their power, this BITCH should never be allowed contact with a child again. She will, unless stopped now, KILL a kid some day.
In my mind, she is the leading candidate for poster girl for "Unfit Mothers of the World."
In the context of world "violence", this incident is trivial...
Why must people like you first be notified by CNN and ABC before climbing out of your hot tub in a collective sigh of naive disbelief and outrage? What planet are you on to be oblivious to such goings on in the land of milk and honey? Try getting out some time and catching some of the truly tragic atrocities committed against the truly defenseless children in countries not as fortunate as the U.S.
So that means you obviously think that cameras in the homes is a possibility, right?
And what "fat police" are you talking about?
Oh well... Well I just got in from a running club shindig, had a good run, been out on the bike all weekend... Great weather for it too. I'm goin' to go catch me a lil' shuteye before my Monday starts up here... Catch ya later... ;)
Sounds like ya had a good weekend, Max. Goodnight, and I'll catch you later when you're rested and have the time....
Assault?
Attempted murder?
Just a minor incident and have it dismissed?
She'll get hers in the slammer. And I won't shed a single terror when they lock the cell.
New Law Seeks To Reduce ObesitySurprised you have missed this modern reality.
Albany--AP | 21 September 2002... This week, the governor signed the Obesity Prevention Act into law ... Fifteen other states have passed legislation
Obviously a silly and unnecessary and all too typical extention of the nanny state. But I fail to see where this is the "Fat Police".
Are you always this paranoid?
If I caught you hitting my child or ANY child there wouldn't be enough left of you to identify.
Some people around here are like large segments of the African American community....you could show them a detailed, grisly security video of OJ stabbing the bodies, and they would still say 'no proof!' 'he was set up!'
