I've never heard of autumn camp. Think you are making this up so you can be a bonbon lady.

When my sons were growing up and we were homeschooling, we lived in several different states. So they ended up studying Alabama history, Florida history, and Mississippi history plus we studied Indiana history because I wanted them to know about where they were born. Poor guys! Momma couldn't make up her mind that once was enough. But we never did make it to Texas history.

Laura is so lovely. No wonder W loves her so much. She is just brimming with inner strength, too. I was just telling lawgirl how empty we will feel when they go back to Texas for good. I can't even imagine it right now. Hopefully, we have another 6 years with them.

But, there is nothing worse than a few hours I spent helping an older brother in the hay field. That is hard work plus it sticks!!

Loved the President's speeches today, particularly the "Pledge of Alligiance" speech. The latter was VERY moving: you could hear a pin drop, the entire audience was hanging on his every word!!

If you want some local reaction to the speech, visit the following websites:

NEW GALLUP/CNN/USATODAY POLL:
GWB's approval rating: an awesome 70%!! [NOTE: Gallup broke TWO polling commandments: 1.) They interviewed a mere 803 people, and 2.) they interviewed these people over the weekend. Result: margin of error +/-4 vs the normal +/- 2 or 3 margin of error). Bottomline: I'm quite sure that the President has an approval rating much closer to 74%; however, whether the rating is 70 or 74, it is still PHENOMENAL at this point in his presidency and at this point in the election cycle!]

FYI: Beginning tomorrow, Paula Zahn (CNN - I know, BARF!), is going to air her recent interviews with George H W Bush. I know its CNN; however, the clips I've seen have been quite poignant!

Never did do the hayfields...nope. *Did* help with feeding pigs and chickens and cleaning up after dairy cows though. My Aunt and Uncle had a farm in Wisconsin.

I thought Ari was to get married this fall. I was thinking September. I haven't heard a date yet. Does anyone know when he is getting married? Or is he still planning to marry Rebecca? It was supposed to be in Indianapolis.

I learned much more about Texas than I did about, let's say.......Nebraska........ which is also big and far away from here!

But you should have. The Pioneer spirit, the Oregon Trail (along with the Mormon trail and others) and all that stuff...course most of those folks were just passing through Nebraska and their way to elsewhere. Just like on I-80 today. :)

Still, Nebraska is a pretty boring place historically, just lots of hard working pioneers and farmers. Not a decent rable rousing politician ever came out of the place...well except for William Jennings Bryan and his "cross of gold" and no great military leaders, unless you count Black Jack Pershing, who wasn't from there, but had ties in Lincoln, and for whom the ROTC building at the U of N is named (along with the municipal auditorium and a local elementry school)

**course most of those folks were just passing through Nebraska and their way to elsewhere.**

Oohhh not true! Many a pioneer planted themselves in Nebraska! Have you heard of Bess Streeter Aldrich? Wonderful author in the 20's and 30's...wrote of those who made Nebraska their home in the 1800's. Wonderful books!

Did y'all catch Dick Morris's glowing assessment of W and his political skills?

Yep, and at the end, Alan Colmes said, "Wow, did you vote for GWB in the last election or something?" LOL!
