Jackson dismisses Founding Fathers

One of the biggest problems we face is that few Americans have the kind of education required to have any perspective. Jackson is clearly one of the many who believes that history began the day he was born.

Were he, and the great mass of Americans properly educated in the Western Canon, he could not say the things he says with a straight face, and he couldn't find an audience to listen in any case.

Jackson personifies the sad state of public education in the US, and the numbers of his followers and enablers and the many more who, by their ignorance, are intimidated by his rantings only provide living proof of America's intellectual fuzziness.

Uh, no, we abandoned the Shah and brought the Islamic revolution into being. President Carter believed that Islamofascists were natural anti-communists, and would be more effective allies than the Shah, who had only provided stability to the middle east for a generation.

It was Carter who persuaded the Shah's generals to abandon him. Of course, they were dead within months at the hands of those same Islamofascists. And Carter's embassy was captured, and we were run out of the country.

The Iranians are not the only ones who wish Carter had never left Georgia.

Jackson's a foolish old demagogue. The great gift of the founders wasn't democracy, but a free and enduring republic. When you look at how many democracies have come and gone over the years, you realize how great their achievement was. Jackson's argument against the coming war surely could make some use of the Founders, and no use of pure democracy which would make the will of the majority law. Jackson's day has come and gone. The problem now isn't to assert Black identity against the traditions of the country, but into integrate Blacks and others into those traditions.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson yesterday told about 600 Michigan State University students that America's democracy was 37 years old, not 200-plus, and that "democracy as we know it did not begin in Philadelphia, where a bunch of white men wrote the laws."

Jackson's relavencey and legitimacy continues to fall off among mainstream blacks, and he continues to try to ply his brand of fringe-based gamesmanship in order to win over those out on the fringe to fuel his cause.
