S.A. Woman Charged $32 For Opinion
Fax Company Profits From Controversy
Posted: 11:46 a.m. CDT September 13, 2002

SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio woman was recently charged $32.45 for her opinion on a hot topic.

Susan Lyman-Krom (pictured, left) said she decided to respond to a poll from an unsolicited fax whether the phrase "One nation under God" should be removed from the Pledge of Allegiance.

"I felt strongly about that question," Lyman-Krom said in an interview with KSAT 12 News.

After writing down her vote, Lyman-Krom faxed her opinion to a 900 number.

According to the fax, calls cost $2.95 a minute. The average fax takes about two minutes in standard mode, the fax stated.

"We figured it would cost $6," Lyman-Krom said.

But when Lyman-Krom received her bill, she said she was shocked to see that she was charged $32.45 for an 11-minute fax by Right2Vote Limited, a Canadian company.

"I think it's a scam," Lyman-Krom added. "I think its a way to hit a nerve with the general public on a heated issue. They are turning right around and collecting all this money on a phone call."

Lyman-Krom said that AT&T told her that the 900 number she called belonged to British Fax Directory.

British Fax Directory is a subsidiary of 21st Century Fax, a London-based company that was fined $1 million by the Federal Communications Commission for junk faxes.

KSAT 12 News tried to contact Right2Vote, but there was no telephone number listed. A phone number to remove a fax machine from the company's list was constantly busy.

Being a lawyer is not genetic . . .

I assure you, few lawyers can get through a week without hearing commentary about their genetics: their maternal parentage in particular.

Did you hear about the lawyer who died at the exact same moment as the Pope? He was surpised to find that 5he Pope had very modest lodgings in the heavenly city while his where palatial by comparison. So he asked St. Peter who told him, "Oh, we get Popes here all the time, but you're the first lawyer we've ever had!"

From a thread started yesterday

Cheers

OOOH - Diddle - this is too much fun - I've only live in the Great State of Texas for 10 years! You'll have to come up with a 50+ female Washington DC (Caucasian) joke/insult for me. P.S. I'm brunet with a gorgeous blond daughter and a even more beautiful brunet granddaughter.

Why should blondes have to tolerate being discriminated
against when it is illegal to discriminate against others?

If it will make you feel any better, the woman
in the picture must really be dumb if
going blonde is an improvement.
Well, maybe that won't make you feel
better after all.   Never mind.

WHAMS? George Michael and Andrew Ridgely are Freepers?

I have a few guesses of what their Freepnames are.

Actually, they didn't. They are stepdaughters. I am not sure just what I said to get such a response from you, but you will hear nothing further from me. I only wish you the best in life.

A fan since Aug 30th of this year is a couple of years? What was your previous screen name?

I'm sorry, if you are offended by blonde jokes, then you have more issues than that. Seek help and a backbone.

I'm going to sue you for that.

Wait, I'd only do that if I were a blonde lawyer.

Well I hope you won't leave FR because some jokes were directed at you.

But the blond jokes were not directed at her, she chose to adopt them. Before my hair turned silver I was blond, jokes never bothered me, heck at times I even used them to my advantage.

Ya know what, hair color has never mattered the least in who I chose to date.

But as long as we are on the subject of hair color, when I was growing up this lass was at the top of the charts:

get a GRIP. As a blonde, I am completely offended by YOUR comments. You are NOT speaking for blondes the world over, kiddo. Some of us have a working brain and can get on with our lives in spite of jokes. You have NEVER made a joke about ANYTHING? A lawyer? an IRS agent? a slow person in the fast lane? the pizza delivery guy who took too long? Better check around....'cuz if you've EVER made a joke about anything....there goes your credibility with your "blonde" lawsuit....which I'm sure is a joke in itself.
