Democrats See Plot in TransOrbital's Moon Plans (Snicker :)

A site calling itself www.democrats.com has a series of hysterical posts about TransOrbital's plan to send a private mission to the Moon.

"While Nation Looks the Other Way on 9/11 Anniversary, Bush Gives Moon to Private Corporation for 'Industrial Development' Like all the other international laws, Bush is now ignoring those pertaining to space. As America is distracted by 9/11 remembrances and warnings of new threats, His Heinous has turned the moon over to a private, for-profit corporation called TransOrbital that has a far-reaching, frigthening agenda for the corporate domination of space. All TransOrbital had to do was promise not to contaminate and pollute the moon - yeah, right. That's what the oil companies say about ANWR. There was no Congressional vote - not even any consultation. Bush simply acted as if the moon were his to give away. The TransOrbital venture could be disastrous for the globe - no scientist today could predict yet how adding mass to the moon via human infrastructure or removing mass, via mining, will impact the delicate gravitational interplay between Earth and its only satellite. The moon belongs to all the people of the Earth - not to George. W. Bush or his friends at TransOrbital."

The Artemis Society is a right wing front, by the way.

"TransOrbital Just Like Bush - Long on Grandiosity and Corporate Schemes, Short on Real Science The company that Bush turned the moon over to as its personal corporate playground is a chip off the old Blockhead. Check out this home page: http://www.transorbital.net/index.html - notice the ad at the top of the page, where the company brags that it will make it possible to display commercial messages on the surface of the moon. Now check this site out for the Artemis Society - the group that is behind TransOrbital. It reminds us of those rghtwing front sites that lead to multiple front sites and nothing is what it seems. You'll notice that their web host calls itself the "Illuminati" and as based in Texas. How Bush/Rumsfeld/Cheney can you get!? Here's another one of their "subsites": Project Leto, a moon tourism outfit based in Las Vegas to attract the glitzy crowd."

Of course it is all a Bush plot to seize the Moon for evil purposes.

"U.S. Military Control of Space from the Moon: The Real Plan behind TransOrbital's Permission to 'Develop' the Moon? Everyone by now knows with painful clarity that the Bush administration does not do a single thing without having something in it for them, and usually something big and juicy. Now put two and two together: Bush gives a wacko commercial company with a scheme called the Artemis Project the green light to be the first to commandeer the moon, commercially - that means patents and legal privilege of a sweeping and unprecedent nature. Now add to that the USS Space Command's long range plan - military control of space. It doesn't take more than two neurons to figure out that once the Artemis Project gets its foot in the lunar door, the "state-sponsored" construction of a military space base will follow."

The Left has always been against government funded space exploration. Looks like they are against commercial space exploration as well. Thanks to Doug Haston on sci.space.policy for pointing this one out.

The Real Plan behind TransOrbital's Permission to 'Develop' the Moon?

The insidious plot is even worse than the democRATs suspect. First, the corporate domination of space. Next, Chroming the Moon!

Private enterprise developing space - that's a model to inspire hope of a New America beyond Earth. All praise Poul Anderson, the old master. With any luck TransOrbital will be run by an Anson Guthrie download a will develop a race of leggy libertarians.

I say, let the first company that plants its corporate flag on the moon gets to keep it, and if anyone doesn't like it, they can take down the flag and challenge the CEO to an arm-wrasslin match on the disputed territory!

I just read the "Bush is gay" thread and it's the funniest crap I've ever read. The Democrats are getting so rabid they're completely nuts. They *know* he's gay, of course, despite no one actually providing evidence other than "Bush has a friend." Kooks.

Soon they will start a campaign to keep the moon in pristine condition!

Actually the really sad part is that this is expected in a lot of science fiction. That people would be passionate enough to worry about a ball of vaccuum rock to keep it 'pristine' is beyond stupid and ranges up there with total self-hatred.

How about a Destination Moon with Harriman, the free enterprise capitalist with the Lunar Dream? I'm too old to see it, but I can still hope for the Lunar Republic of Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistriss.

Yes, loved Harsh Mistress. A lunar libertarian revolt aided by a self-aware computer named Mike. Heinlein was an old master too. Hail Heinlein.

Me too. Had a TANSTAAFL button back then too. If I'm lucky it's in my attic somewhere guarded by spiders.

Next thing you know the eco-wacks will be saying there used to be 200 foot high redwoods growing on the moon, but the Apollo landings threw the ecology out of whack and look at the desolation now!

And, of course, Bush will be to blame for it all.

P.S. ANWR hasn't been drilled yet. But the North Slope has, and there hasn't been any environmental degradation of that area to my knowledge. But, I'm talking back to a group of people who have less than two neurons... amongst all of them together!

Okay, I'll bite. What is the title of thread over there? Have there ever been a bigger bunch of losers born??? Looks like the vast majority of the lounge threads are them patting themselves on the back for how many posts they've made. Of course, I guess that is a pretty good gauge of stupidity level over there. The longer you are allowed to stay, the farthur gone you are. Lord, those people are a crackup, albeit in a pathetic sort of way.

Since liberals hate technology, especially space programs, why should they mind having space turned over to private enterprise?

If there are any illusions remaining that the left cares about human life this should put an end to that. This guy is objecting to sending a landing craft that is simply serving as a platform to leave a bunch of messages to be read in the future someday on the moon. Not so much as a microbe will be hurt by this mission and this moron is ranting about mining and how this "will impact the delicate gravitational interplay between Earth and its only satellite"

As for the claim that  - "no scientist today could predict yet how adding mass to the moon via human infrastructure or removing mass, via mining..." That is either an outright lie or a colossal confession of ignorance on behalf of the author. Orbital dynamics are well understood, so much so that Voyager 2, after more than a ten year journey to Neptune, was only off the predicted arrival time by seconds.

So if this guy has no facts on his side what else can explain his bizarre motivation to cancel this mission except for a propound self hatred of mankind and a deep seated fear that it might actually lead to something good?
