I can't help wondering how many separate plans are 'in the works' at this very moment. One is too many.

Sooner or later the Islamikazis will get lucky and set a nuke off in an American city, or let loose smallpox or pounds (not grams!) of anthrax etc.

Sooner or later we are going to have to quarantine the Muslim Islamikazi world from the civilized world.

I don't know about Bitchlery, but Bubba was in the city at least as of the dinner hour last night to tape Letterman...

Is it blasphemous to suggest that Clinton would assist terrorists in smuggling a nuke into the country if he thought it would increase his stature or wealth in some way?

Remember the Palestinean weapons and explosives shipment intercepted off Gaza?

The cargo was loaded into bouyed watertight cannisters for later pickup by Palestinean "fishing vessels".

I agree, however, I think they will make demands first, holding a major city hostage, but these demands will not be, wont be met, at which point they will detonate a device....

If you get shot in the head with one bullet that pretty much kills you right?

Only if your not trying to "kill yourself" in Iraq.

I disagree. One will just go off: no warning, no claim of credit, no return address.

A word we need to teach every American:

CUTOUT

This is the use of intermediaries to prevent the actual instigator of an action from being discovered, as in "Al Qaueda was used as a cutout for Saddam Hussein".

You asked about shielding. The quick answer is that you can shield just about anything. Some emissions will always get through, but shielding can be so good that you will need to be very close (a few feet) to detect them.

The amount of shielding needed depends on what is being shielded. Lead blocks most things, and an ordinary lead apron used by lab x-ray technicians would block a lot.

Most radiation from non-weapon sources is alpha, beta, or gamma radiation, with gamma the most powerful and least common. Finding this kind of radiation would not be particularly alarming.

Neutrons are a different story. They are most often associated with fissile materials (meaning they can be split, and go BOOM!). Detecting neutrons is a very big deal.

The amount of neutron emission from enough fissionable material to start a chain reaction is remarkably small unless the material is brought close enough together to start a chain reaction. That happens only when the weapon is set off.

Neutrons can be absorbed by lead, but materials like cadmium are usually used instead (such as control rods in nuclear reactors).

The amount of shielding needed would depend on how "hot" the material being shielded was. (Generally, you need less than the public tends to think.)

My nuke experience is 20 years old, and I don't know how sensitive our detection capability is now. Hence, I have no way to estimate exactly how much shielding would block detection at any given range. I doubt the feds are giving that info out, and it would depend on what was being shielded anyway.

However, I certainly know the basics. I am extremely interested in finding out if neutron emissions were detected. I would also like to know what was meant by "fluctuating" levels of radiation, and what the suspicious noises from the hold were.

If anyone can confirm that neutron emissions were detected, that would be huge.

Thanks for posting the New Jersey house raid article. I heard one of the cable anchors mention a raid on a house in NJ yesterday, but never heard any details. (By the way, I'm also a NJ Freeper, although a Texan by birth.)

I see Hanjin containers ALL the time on trains that run along the Mississippi. LOTS of containers; sometimes entire trains full of them.

Remember as well there was a similar incident around Christmas with a cargo ship near London, that turned out to be nothing.

And I believe SEALs have been involved in searching ships in the Indian Ocean; so while it's unusual near the US, SEALs boarding ships overall isn't completely unheard of.

You may be correct, however, we already know who the bad guys are, and have known from a long while. To appear human, and to gain world support, they may make demands, demands that cannot be met. Like when we nuked Hiroshima, and demanded surrender, once that wasn't met, we nuked Nagasaki.

Their Hiroshima has already occured, WTC.

But again, you may be correct, as we are dealing with fanatics, beyond what the Japanese brought to the table.

This was based on actual intelligence they received that a container ship fitting that description could be carrying a nuclear weapon or device into the US

DAMN! There (potentially) goes another collaborator. Why, oh why, are our own people leaking this stuff to the press? This should have been, "good work by customs," or "we got lucky," period. But, no, because some self-important idiot wanted to show off his insider knowledge, we may not have any intelligence warning the next time.

Key paragraph? "Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said his department and other local law enforcement agencies were not told about the investigation until minutes before the searches began at all three properties. He said his offer to help in the investigation was declined."

Are the NJ FBI Raid and the NJ Ship inspection linked? The Federal boys sure are not sharing the spotlight with the LEOs - they were left completely out of this loop. Something's moving fast around in NJ/NY...
