Baldwin also went on Conan O'Brien's late-night show during the Clinton impeachment to say that Illinois Republican Congressman Henry Hyde should be shot -- along with his family. I'm pretty sure this in not the case. He "merely" encouraged that Hyde and his family should be stoned to death, as I recall.

What is the difference?????

Thanks for the ping, Liz. I always enjoyed Pat Sajak's wit and the speech shows he has a deep intellect as well. He needs to run for office.

Yeah, Baldwin is off the hook for suggesting stoning not shooting......(/sarcasm off).

Just superb. Nothing to add to this, except "BUMP".
Marvelous - bttt.
FWIW, he does seem to pretty much run his own ship (Wheel of Fortune), which may help him keep a clearer perspective. It is a celebrity-free environment (apologies to Vanna!).
Mental inbreeding may be the leading contributing factor for most of the Hollywood perspective. Mr. Sajak's reporting of the comment by Pauline Kael is particularly demonstative of this idea.
I remember Pat Sajak had a talk show several years back, competing with the Leno's of the world. It didn't last long; perhaps that was because the type of talk show he was trying was highly dependent on celebrities, and there wasn't a good mesh?

GREAT speech!
I have heard Pat say on tv (I think during the 2000 campaign season) that he tried not to use his "celebrity" to promote his political views because the two were entirely separate.
As much as I'd like to see him speaking out more, I have to respect that stand. He would be the hypocrite that he says the others are if he used his fame that way.
It's a shame though because he is certainly eloquent in this speech!
To clarify: I don't think making a convocation speech to a small college audience qualifies as stating his views on the national stage ..... and I wonder how many such speeches he has made through the years of which we are unaware.

Score one for Pat Sajak! And his resume ain't too shabby either. Why doesn't he run for something, anyway?

I've had a certain amount of respect for Pat over the years as Vanna wasn't replaced with the model du jour every season. I figured he probably had some say in that. Good read.

"

I'd tell him to stay his course. He's doing just fine!

My mother was a fan of Pat Sajack and his "Wheel" show. We knew never to call her during the show. She knew the answers before anyone. She lived to be 89 years and still
watched every show each evening. She was dying in Orlando and US Air was kind enough to put me on a flight ASAP.
I sat in my seat and looked up at the man sliding into the seat next to me. My eyes brimmed and I could not speak.
He was a kind and gracious person and I noticed he did crosswords all the way to Orlando. I tried to tell him of my mother's strict rule about no calls during his show.
I could not. I left him alone on his trip. I was able to
tell my mother I loved her and held her hand as she passed.
Mr Sajack kept her alert, thinking and occupied with his
show for many years. Thanks Pat. Alice thanks you too.
