President Bush celebrated Labor Day in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania today as he spoke to members of the Carpenter's Union and attended a picnic. In his speech, the President focused on thanking American workers and on strengthening the country through compassion. He also used the occasion to stress the need for a cabinet-level department of homeland defense. Bush also toured the Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship Center on Neville Island. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

My personal opinion and I certainly don't have any inside information is that he wants to protect himself as much as possible from the sun. Have you seen his father lately? Those thing are in the genes and if I was a betting person I'd think this was a protective strategy.

From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. The thing to keep in mind that the crowd was mostly Union - with a few GOP faithful.

You are welcome!!!!! To me, this pics show the true spirit of the MAN, not just the President. BTW, I read your narrative of Eric's graduation... what a beautiful expression of how much you love your son. You have a lot to be proud of, my dear...

Thanks for the ping, thanks for the dose tonight. I've missed these in August. These are great pictures, and I'm glad he emphasizes ties with unions when it is possible.
What's with the tongue sticking out on this post, where you're both using the circular saws?

Is that Dr. Condi Rice in the background (between W & the carpenter)? If I had known she was coming - I WOULD HAVE WENT TODAY!!!

My guess is that the sweating was caused by the kevlar vest which he wears, I believe, in crowd situations. Just my guess.
I heard the speech today. Very off-the-cuff type talk, down to earth, and some great phrases.

I am so glad the President got to take a vacation ..... but it sure is good to have our Daily Dose again!
Here's the text of the speech today. One of my favorite lines was when he was talking about the Homeland Defense bill and ended that segment of his speech with the words "And the Senate better get it right." Take that, little tommy!!!
President Bush Thanks America's Workers at Labor Day Picnic
