Greetings, Fellow Freepers
With all the ever-increasing assaults on America over the years coming from the Left, I was inspired to write down the things that I, as an American, believe in. I put a web page together listing these things As an American, I believe. I was hoping that members of Free Republic would add to what I have come up with. I will put your statements on the web page along with your screen name, and the date. I will also use your real name if you would prefer that.
As an American, I believe
America is the land of opportunity and any American can go as far as his drive and willingness to work will take him. I have no sympathy for those who prefer to blame society for their miserable circumstances and then stick their hands out for government assistance.America is the most benign super power that has ever existed on the face of the earth. We rebuilt Europe and Japan after WWII, pouring billions into their war ravaged lands, leaving them to self-determination, and then removing their debts. No other power in the history of the world has shown this kind of compassion to its vanquished. Today, we pour billions into impoverished, third world countries. The Blame-America crowd can find themselves some nice, little, marxist third-world country to move to.
The rich are rich because they had the wherewithal to grab the bull by the horns and take advantage of all the opportunities this bountiful country of ours has to offer, and no one has the right to determine how rich the rich should be. It is because of the rich that America is rich. Your employer is probably rich, and, without whom, you wouldn't have a job. The rich dont owe it to society to support the poor.
The money I make belongs to my family and me. I pay taxes to support those institutions that protect my family and me, provide education for my children, and provide public works. I think it is reprehensible that my hard-earned money also goes to support worthless, alcoholic, druggies whose only contribution to society is to produce more of themselves, or to the arts that make a mockery of values that decent Americans hold dear.
English should be declared the official language of America. English is the international language and the reason it is the international language is because it is the language of the most powerful country on earth the United States of America. You cannot be an airline pilot unless you speak English. You cannot be employed on a cruise ship unless you speak English. English is required in schools around the world. Why shouldnt English be required of every American because it is "racist" to propose such a thing? The story of the Tower of Babel is one of the oldest stories in the world and it perfectly illustrates where this country is now headed. Once we lose our ability to communicate with one another, we cease to exist as a nation. "Ebonics" is utterly absurd. It is just another in-your-face-America attempt by malcontents with an axe to grind to undermine our great nation and to excuse laziness. Instead of pushing "Ebonics", community leaders should be encouraging people to master our native tongue, which will provide them with the tools needed to compete in our society.
Terms like "diversity", "sensitivity", and "tolerance" are code words for government handouts.
Dan Quayle took a lot of flack and ridicule for attempting to make a campaign issue out of a TV program, in which Murphy Brown considers having a child out of wedlock. His message, however, was clear - It was the Hollywood version of Clintonesque moral relativity. The moral behind Dan Quayles message is this: A nation is only as strong as the people who comprise it so goes the family, so goes the people, so goes the nation.
I am not a slave owner and neither was my father or my grandfather. You are not a slave and neither was your father or your grandfather. Slavery was a cruel, immoral institution, which a moral society finally destroyed. So get outta my face with your reparations.
The Boy Scouts of America has every right to protect the children in their charge.
Our founding fathers are not dead, white, males. They were giants who, against all odds and great hardships, defeated one of the worlds mightiest powers and founded the greatest country in the world. Their pictures should adorn every school and every government facility in the nation, and their praises should be sung from the highest roof tops. Our children should be taught everything there is to know about these great men and the revolution that gave us our freedom. How many Americans really appreciate how tenuous our revolution was? George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, et.al, overcame insurmountable odds with nothing more than an under-equipped, under-fed, rag-tag army, bravery, and determination. If they had failed, they would all have been hung as traitors, there would be no United States of America, and our revolution would be nothing more than a footnote in world history.
"Self-esteem" has taken over math, history, and English as the prime objective in American schools, and, unless we get back to educating our children, America is doomed.
I dont believe Bill Clinton fought to save the Constitution. I believe he fought to save his miserable @ss, and that he would have never been able to do so without the unrelenting pressure from the power-hungry Hillary.

A car in every garage?
Or, a car in every garage and a chicken in every pot. Well, I have no problem with a car in every garage or a chicken in every pot. How that car, or chicken, gets there is the isuue, I believe. I don't want to be forced to work so that someone else can have one at my expense, that's for sure. Let whomever desires a car in their garage or a chicken in their pot earn it their own selves.
And if you are seeking an ecological response then I think that the "greenies" ought to "get a grip" on reality and stop blocking ANWR and let the drilling commence so as to reduce our dependence on foreign supplies of oil and its byproducts.
The rich have a moral obligation to support the poor?
I don't believe the rich arbitrarily have an obligation to support the poor to start with and as far as a "moral" obligation, all rich persons aren't "moral" to begin with. That is an individual issue, something for them to decide in their own life. How can an athiest have a "moral" obligation? What is his basis? Morality is a subjective issue in this instance.
A "moral" ogligation is usually something imposed by someone on themselves based upon a personal belief and criteria, such as the Bible. An immoral wealthy man can often times be more generous than a man with a moral compunction and their reasons for their generosity are discernable only to themselves. Whereas the one man may see charity as "improving his image" or "gaining political support", the other man sees it as a duty and/or obligation. It's called charity for a reason, and charity should not be done at public expense, but rather from private choosings.
And speaking of "bullets"...Molon Labe!
When the day comes that mandatory confiscation of private weapons occurs this nation will no longer be America.
Any more "bullets" you want to shoot my way?
no one has the right to determine how rich the rich should be.
We shall see the next time there is a pilot strike. FReepers will come out from under every rock and tell all how much the pilots should make.
Terms like "diversity", "sensitivity", and "tolerance" are code words for government handouts.
No. They are the battle cry of those who wish to destroy our culture. Make no mistake, multi-culturalism is all about destroying the Anglo culture which dominates America and the rest of the prosporous world.
So get outta my face with your reparations.
Reparations would be the best thing to happen to our nation since 1791. Only when the issue of race is thrown in the face of the white majority, will the majority deal with race in a difinitive manner. Until then, we will vouchsafe the huddled masses some bennies if they leave us alone for another day. This is death by a thousand cuts. Until we face the issue, America will only decline into balkanized chaos. "Self-esteem" has taken over math, history, and English as the prime objective in American schools, and, unless we get back to educating our children, America is doomed.
No, America is doomed as long as government is the primary teacher of our children. Infusing our children with the gov'ts values is what is killing us. I dont believe Bill Clinton fought to save the Constitution. I believe he fought to save his miserable @ss, and that he would have never been able to do so without the unrelenting pressure from the power-hungry Hillary.
Had it not been for our attention to our 401k and stock portfolios, Clinton would have been run out of office. However, as a nation we took the attitude of:
I've got mine.
Don't rock the boat.
I'm so enlightened.
That is what is killing us. As long as we remain in the grasp of affluence, we will never fix what is wrong with our nation. For the health of the nation, pray for a DJIA balow 4000, and a NAZ of 500.
What insightful and astute statements you've made! I mean that sincerely!
And, damn, will you look at this?! Your perceptive thoughts have miraculously made a valuable contribution to Shen's site for future generations to ponder!
My apologies! It's gone.
And believe me when I tell you that I didn't post your statements to be funny. You're right, of course, that the option to post or not is your decision and I shouldn't have taken it upon myself to grab your words.
I really like what you have to say and I wish you would consider putting something up on my site. I don't see anything in what you said that lends itself open for lampooning or lambasting.
Well, again, please accept my apologies. The site, itself, is not an open forum, it is a collection of thoughts that capture the times we live in, and I think you captured the times very eloquently.
No. They are the battle cry of those who wish to destroy our culture. Make no mistake, multi-culturalism is all about destroying the Anglo culture which dominates America and the rest of the prosporous world.
You're closer to the point on this than I am. I just didn't want to be too inflammatory in my statements. Actually, I think "government handouts", in a way, aludes to destroying our culture, so the message is there. I think that "Anglo" culture would be more aptly called "Western" culture, as "Anglo" technically refers to "Anglo-Saxon", or, the English, and most of Europe; Scandinavians, French, Italians, are Western cultures. That being said, I agree with you on your content. The most successful countries in the world with the highest standards of living are Western, capitalist democracies, and there are elements in our country seeking to drag us into third-worldism!
I didn't think of "multi-culturalism" in there. Mind if I add it to my statement?
So get outta my face with your reparations.

First of all, I really don't think reparations is going to happen. It's just too absurd. Of course, I could be wrong. Secondly, I don't see this as an us against them issue. I feel that we are all in this together and things like reparations wouldn't even be discussed if it weren't for pandering politicians and the left wing media. They're the ones who empower the malcontents and They're the ones we have to nail. In recent times, a small black, conservative minority is beginning to make its voice heard. I believe there are a lot more blacks who agree with the likes of Jesse Pederson, but who have yet to be heard from. I believe these people are intimidated into silence by the likes of Jesse Jackson & Co., but Jackson has seen better days, and I believe the ground swell of conservative blacks will rise and take on a momentum.

Yes, but we are the government and we have to take our government back. That's beginning to happen, too. We've got Bush in office, for one thing. (Please take that at face value. I don't want to get off on a whole different discussion on that) Lynn Chaney has said some right-on things about education and she is in a position of power (more than the average bear, that is) There a LOT of teachers who absolutely disagree with the NEA's position that we should teach our children that no one is to blame for 911. Even before that decision, I had seen teachers being interviewd who have had it up to here with the state of education and the NEA. They will gain momentum, I'm sure of it. So, you wanna put together some of your most cherished beliefs and pet peeves to post on my site? Promise I won't do so without your permission.
- Shen

My thanks you for your words of praise and there was no real need for the apology. Upon reading my words again they sound/read as...irate...though that was not my intent.
I shall consider your request, though I'll make no promise.
