We do this every Friday night as part of our support the troops rally. I had managed to bring this up on a local radio talk show, and told the host I was going to be on the corner with a sign like this and asked others to join me. JK Photo was kind enough to make me the one pictured to replace the hand lettered one I made!

I know the Fresno Freepers are ready, willing, and able to help, as we are already doing it!

I didn't mention it in my previous post, but the reason I made the first sign is that the anti-war protesters who gather across the street from our regular rally had signs blaming Bush for bankrupting California!
You can imagine my outrage at that!

So my first handlettered sign, and phone call to the radio show was to say that Davis is bankrupting California.

That point needs to be made loud and clear to an overtaxed electorate here!

Upon learning this, we allowed Davis access to accurate information which will cause his candidacy severe destrutction if believed and acted upon.

Unfortunately, this man, Terry McAuliffe , Davis' only contact in America, discovered the information was accurate and reported to his superiors that Davis had defected. However, his superiors are aware McAuliffe is jealous of Davis. The truth or falsity of this information is so important that they are sending their most brilliant intelligence officer to investigate.

Put me on the documentation team. I like the suggestion that we have a couple of different camera people, one with a bird's eye view and another in the thick of the action. Both should have 3CCD camcorders - I have the XL1, and I noticed someone else has a TRV900.

In view of my experience in the last freep, I volunteer to be in the thick of things, and if I can get tapes from the entire team, I will do the editing.

I can go anywhere weekends in LA or Orange County; give me at least a couple of days notice if you can.

Seriously, SOMEONE has to do it. I am actually hoping to get SEVERAL FReepers - across the state - to wear similar costumes. This image of Davis as a prostitute will POWERFULLY resonate with CA voters, IMHO.

The OTHER costumed figure ("Super SIMON") is important, too.
I can see the Superman character actually talking to the media, giving quotes like:

"Bill Simon is no superhero. He's actually more like Clark Kent. Honest. Hard-working. NOT a politician."

"Bill Simon's crime-fighting power comes not from some faraway planet, but from the BALLOT BOX, right here in California. Vote for Bill Simon, and Dump DAVIS!"

"Gray Davis is giving two-bit hookers a bad name. At least THEY are giving away THEIR OWN favors, not tax dollars from hard-working Californians."

"We need to DUMP DAVIS, and get rid of the graft in Sacramento. Bill Simon will make decisions based upon what is RIGHT for California, not on who paid him the most in campaign contributions."

Here's my "after action" report, which may have some street theater ideas that others may find useful.

Governor D. was in Los Angeles this morning (Monday, Sept. 2), addressing the opening of the "UCLA Labor center" near Macarthur Park (how's that for a fine use of tax dollars?).

Anyway, notice was short, but seven of us showed up to show the flag. The message of the day was "Davis is killing California" -- you know, permits for Dioxin dumping, metabolife etc. etc. So, to support this message we had two "Gray Reapers" -- complete with Gray face masks, sycthes, and the usual signs. One unique sign was a black cardboard coffin with appropriate signage. We were inteviewed by a reporter from the LA times, and a Times photographer took some shots as well.

Downside? A group of about two dozen hired goons obstructed our signs and prevented any of the TV cameras from seeing us, and one of our guys was assaulted (kicked in the groin, of all things). THAT got the attention of LA's finest, and the thug was arrested.

Biggest lesson? We need to get earlier notice, and we really, seriously need to get more good guys at these things.

One way around "blocking" by counter-protesters may be to hold our FReeps in specially designated "First Amendment Zones."

I found out about these areas when we protested Bill Clinon's appearance at a "Success" seminar at the Cow Palace, near San Francisco last year.

Apparently, there are certain public facilities where this sort of thing has happened before - friction, or WORSE - between rival factions, so they set up these "safety zones" - about ten feet by ten feet - in which OUR group had to remain, but into which the OTHER group could not trespass.

There MUST be similar "First Amendment Zones" at other public venues in California, and we need to FIND them, and USE them.

And, we need OUR OWN video coverage of all future FReeps -
for use in criminal prosecution, if necessary.
