We teach 4 year-old Sunday school.....by and far the children of stay-at-home moms and/or future homeschoolers are the snottiest, sassiest, least behaved children in our group, day-in, day-out. When we get a new child, we can tell nearly instantly if he/she has a stay-at-home mom. Funny thing is, their mommies have a smug, "holier than thou" attitude to anyone not in their little mold.
There is something to be said about socialization (or the lack thereof.)

There is something to be said about socialization (or the lack thereof.) Interesting because, if you were to believe the anti-stay-at-home-mom/anti-homeschooling people, our children are supposed to be shy, insecure, and too reserved, not "snotty", "sassy", or ill-behaved. My own children never even met other homeschoolers until recently, but they always played sports with "schoolers". And, I assure you, my children were WELL-behaved, though, I admit, probably alittle shy. (They're just not shy with each other or me at home where they test my patience just about every single day).
On the other hand, I've noticed "schoolers" being snotty, sassy, and ill-behaved. Sigh... I guess we all just know different people, eh?

And the ratio is....?
The homeschool group I lead has over 70 children in it. Every single field trip we had in the last school year (numbering 16) resulted in praises from the businesses we visited. They said our children were the most well behaved group visiting their establishments.
Sounds like you have an anti homeschool attitude based on ignorance...and grouping a few bratty kiddos into the entire homeschool community. tsktsktsk

That's the problem! You're dealing with kids of religious parents who would send them to Sunday school!
My little sister attended Sunday school once with a friend, and when she got home noted that a large number of the kids there were rude, and snotty.

What a lovely judgemental post. I am a stay at home Mom, and my son has sensory problems which cause behavior problems, and I STILL get compliments on how well behaved my kids are.
Just because SOME parents want to be their childrens' friend and not their parent, doesn't mean everyone is like that.

I wonder if prehaps the mommies' attuitudes weren't to blame? I am, and intend to remain, a stay at home mom, but I have absolutely no intention of allowing my baby to grow up snotty. I'm home so that I can ensure that he learns manners. Daycare centers may do a good job teaching a child to behave around grownups, but their treatment of other children can get downright mean.

There is something to be said about socialization (or the lack thereof.)We homeschool and think "socialization" is the biggest myth on homeschooling. Most of the homeschooled kids we meet are extremely well behaved and have no social issues whatsoever.

Where do you teach sunday school? I want to be sure we are never affiliated with a program that has such a low regard for children of sahm children. Couldn't be they are reacting off of your probably negative treatment to them and thier parents as soon as they walk in the door could it? Children are quite perceptive in my observation.
As for your little study, on what--maybe 20 or 30 children raised in a similar area by mothers with similar ideals, I could site for you just the opposite in my experience. The only thing it proves to me is that your church attracts prideful people if in fact your observations are accurate at all. Perhaps that is where you should look for the problem.
