We teach 4 year-old Sunday school.....by and far the children of stay-at-home moms and/or future homeschoolers are the snottiest, sassiest, least behaved children in our group, day-in, day-out. When we get a new child, we can tell nearly instantly if he/she has a stay-at-home mom. Funny thing is, their mommies have a smug, "holier than thou" attitude to anyone not in their little mold. There is something to be said about socialization (or the lack thereof.)

Interesting because, if you were to believe the anti-stay-at-home-mom/anti-homeschooling people, our children are supposed to be shy, insecure, and too reserved, not "snotty", "sassy", or ill-behaved. My own children never even met other homeschoolers until recently, but they always played sports with "schoolers". And, I assure you, my children were WELL-behaved, though, I admit, probably alittle shy. (They're just not shy with each other or me at home where they test my patience just about every single day).

On the other hand, I've noticed "schoolers" being snotty, sassy, and ill-behaved. Sigh... I guess we all just know different people, eh?

I didn't choose sides. I didn't anticipate what we came to discover (or at least perceive), to be fair. In theory, it would seem that children with a stay-at-home mom would be more shy, and perhaps even better behaved than their working mom counterparts' children. But that's not at all what we experience. We have about 15 children on an average Sunday. The same 4-6 children that are the most aggressive, least disciplined, and least willing to accept discipline come from stay-at-home-mom families. Is it just coincidence? I dunno, maybe. I will also say that these particular children are extremely intelligent, considerably further along cognitively, yet remain the most rowdy and aggressive in a group setting.

and kids are all different as well. My daughter is quite friendly, says hi to everyone(even sunday school teachers who hate that she is at home), and lately is a bit of a tattle. My son on the other hand is quite reserved, shy and quiet. Same home, both at home--go figure.
