A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic is a high profile chapter. And, as such, we have high expectations of them. They have more than lived up to these high expectations. They make us proud on a regular basis. They enjoy a good reputation and work hard, together, to maintain their integrity.
What Have They Been Doing Recently?
The D.C. Chapter had a chapter meeting just yesterday (8/25/02) and on the agenda were items such as: How to Observe 9/11 Anniversary and How to Reach out to Conservative College Students.
Last Thursday (8/22/02) they were invited to attend Sean Hannity's promotional appearance in Washington, D.C. for the release of his first book, "Let Freedom Ring". This invitation was issued by Hannity through a mutual friend of the Chapter and Hannity.

Background and History of the D.C. Chapter
It is hard to know where to begin when highlighting the D.C. Chapter of FR. They have inspired us, informed us, delighted us and entertained us.
They are composed of many of FR's Finest. In fact, we initially approached one of the members of the D.C. Chapter for profiling on the Few of FR'S Finest Thread. This member politely declined and requested that we do the D.C. Chapter as a whole rather than single out individuals. So, therefore, we will attempt to do just that.
The D.C. Chapter began when MrConfettiMan invited people to join him in front of the White House. He showed up on September 26, 1998 with a sign that read GET OUT OF OUR HOUSE! and IT'S THE LAW, STUPID! (FIRE THE LIAR and JAIL TO THE CHIEF was his signature sign that MrConfettiMan used later).
Only one other person joined him marching in front of the White House for a couple of hours, and MrConfettiMan went home and wrote the first after-action report challenging the rest of us by asking, "I Was There, Where Were You?" The next week, 24 people showed up with handmade signs. Patriot, Doctor Raoul, Kristinn and Angelwood were in the first group of 24 protesters.
The official notice of the DC Chapter formation was posted on November 7, 1998 by MrConfettiMan and Patriot.
Today kristinn serves as the Warlord of the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic and Angelwood serves as the Ringleader of the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic. The D.C. Chapter and its members have won many Free Republic awards, with the D.C. Chapter being awarded Chapter of the Year on at least two occasions, and both Angelwood and kristinn being awarded Freeper of the Year on more than one occasion.
Freepin', freepin' and more freepin'...
To say that the D.C. Chapter has done many freeps is an understatement. This is D.C., after all, and there's always some liberal wacko in need of a FReeping, from politician to media mouthpiece. There are many creative people in the D.C. Chapter, and they sometimes show up in costumes (convict Bill Clinton and cellmate Hillary!, Hillary!'s brother the devil, a purple-haired hippie throwback, King Suckerfish, the Gorinch, Nurse Ratchet, and many more), and folks who make some very pithy signs, folks who go for humorous signs to get their point across, and folks who make some incredibly effective speeches.
You are now directed to kristinn's Profile Page, where he has bookmarked many of the D.C. Chapter FReeps.
The DC Chapter protested almost every Saturday in front of the White House from September 1998 through January 2001 (28 straight months). This photo was taken September 23, 2000 to celebrate two years of Freepin' at the White House.
Havin' fun..
The D.C. Chapter knows how to have fun. They have sponsored many events for all members of FR to attend.
At the top of the list of fun, of course, was the FRee Republic Inaugural Ball and Count the Silverware Party featuring Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and his band, Capital Offense.
Another fun event was a tour of the White House last August for 100 Freepers. It was a victory tour and was organizd through the office of Rep. Bob Barr.
One of the D.C. Chapter's favorite gathering spots in the D.C. area is Luigi's, where they would usually gather after one of the Freeps at Gore's House. This particular graphic is a 'doctored' photo of a few of the regular FReepers, enjoying pizza with the newly inaugurated President and Mrs. Bush and Vice President Cheney. (Hey, it could happen) :)

WE HAVE SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST....
"GET OUT OF CHENEY'S HOUSE" "SORE LOSERMAN"
Following the election of George W. Bush as President in 2000, VP Gore attempted to steal the election. Free Republic, in general, and D.C. Chapter of FR, in particular, were not about to let this happen.
For one month following the election, the D.C. Chapter sponsored daily and evening protest vigils outside the Vice President's residence. They were joined by FReepers from across the U.S.A who were in the area at various times during the month.
Through these protests, which were highly visible in the media, Free Republic let Mr. Gore, the media, the nation and the world know that we would not put up with the stealing of the election and that Mr. Gore should "Get out of Cheney's house !" He (and they) heard us.
For those of us who were unable to attend these FReeps, we lived vicariously through the D.C. Chapter. It has been stated by many on the Forums how reading FR daily about the VP Freeps is the only thing that got them through the nightmare of the Presidential Election aftermath in 2000.
Thanks to all who gave so much of their time, efforts, supplies and genius. In the eyes of many, the "Get Out of Cheney's House" and "Sore Loserman" Freeps rank second only to the March for Justice in significance and importance to Free Republic.
This photo was taken at the White House where FReepers met prior to journeying over to the VP's residence one day in November 2000.

The Quote that made me register after years of lurking:That is the single most important post I've ever recieved on FR, Thank you!
That Quote turned me from angry to active, for wich I am grateful. I take it literally and I take it to heart.

Daisy, this is a beautiful tribute! So many memorable moments. Who could forget the weekend that the left came to the shocking realization that they were no longer king of the Hill....when the awesome DC Freepers faced off against JJackson's rent-a-mob in front of the USSC post-election 2000...and JJackson blinked, actually turned tail and escaped in a waiting taxi. Or
kristinn's serenading Clinton with the
Cop's Cheer (come out with your pants up...!). (^:

BUMP DC FReepers!
Just want all of you to know what an inspiration you have been to FReepers here in the Pacific Northwest. You've inspired us, strengthened us, and educated us about what FReeping is all about. You Rock - I just hope one day I can join you in a "Back East" FReep! :)

I saw your beautiful thread this morning before I left for work. But I didn't have time this morning to say "Thank you!"
I'm a fairly new (I didn't say young) member of the DC Chapter, having only joined the group during the Y2k "Gore Wars," and through your thread I am reminded why I joined up with this group.
The first day I saw the DC Chapter in action was the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend in 2000. I had gotten an email which was forwarded to me from a gun rights person in MD who was also on the Northern VA GOP email list... and the email was the DC Chapter's protest announcement. I took my then 15 year old son with me to Cheney's House that day, and we were both flabbergasted at the HUGE crowd of people who were there, holding American flags, Bush/Cheney signs, homemade signs with some incredibly funny messages, and even a few people wearing Gore masks, costumes, and a guy with a paper bag over his head... the message on the bag said something like "I'm ashamed, I voted for Gore."
I later came to learn that the fellow who wore that bag on his head was AGreatper. The folks I now know and love as my fellow DC Chapter members impressed me so that day, with their good humor, their quick (and very witty) responses to the Gorons on the other street corner; but most of all their great restraint in the face of some ugly and rough behavior from a few on the other side.
I still have my dog-eared copy of the "DC Chapter of FreeRepublic.com RULES FOR PROTESTING" that Doctor Raoul (God love him!) gave me that day; and I will have it as a keepsake of my introduction to the DC Chapter forever. That one little piece of paper started my adventure with the Chapter... you see, I had come down to stand with a bunch of very upset conservatives who had legitimate concerns that the election was being stolen by a corrupt machine. I had my son with me and I thought that if the Democrats are corrupt enough to try and steal an election away from the people, then they are also bad enough to start some sort of violent confrontation; and I was justifiably worried that I may have brought my son into a dangerous situation.
Not that the "rules for protesting" were any protection of course, but they were proof to me that these people were serious about keeping things focused and peaceful. And that little piece of paper gave me comfort that day.
So I came back the next day with my 13 year old daughter, and did she turn out to be a trooper extraordinaire! We stayed for the whole day, cold and exhausted but ready to see this thing through to the end, no matter what. My daughter asked to come with me almost every evening that I went down, which was almost every evening after work. I did bring her down on a few school nights, but mostly she was in the weekend platoon. We dressed for whatever weather was expected, carried food and hot drinks with us, as well as signs and sign making stuff (which I learned from Angelwood, our beloved Ringleader).
I came to know and respect so many DC Chapter regulars... Jimmy Valentine's brother, the Republican Goons paymaster, whose "Gore" money I also still have...doctor Raoul and his prison stripes costume... Ironman with the Gore mask on a pike... Angelwood with her buttons... Kristinn who never wore gloves, no matter how cold it was!... stand watie and his clementine oranges... the Glaswegian, Katya and family, viadexter and our cigarette breaks, staytrue, Dave Dilegge... the list could go on forever!
Well, I could write a whole chapter about the Chapter. But the most important thing I can say about the group is this:
No greater bunch of people have I ever known. I have trusted them with my life, and with those of my kids', and they have never let me down. They are good and honorable people, with hearts as big as the whole of flyover country. They believe in Jim Robinson's dream, because it's their dream, too... To root out political fraud and corruption, return our country to its Constitutional roots, and champion causes which further conservatism in America. And boy do we have fun doing it! HOO-YAH !!
And none of this would have been possible without the dream of Jim Robinson - Free Republic! Thank you, Jim!
And thank you daisyscarlett and "Finest" ladies. This one's for you. HOO-YAH !!

That was a great tour of the White House, I laughed for hours over the remark by one of us Freepers when the Clinton China was pointed out by the tour guide. He said "Is that all that's left". After leaving the restaurant we all met in for lunch I was sitting at a traffic light and laughed out loud and a couple next to me at the light started laughing too, They asked me what I was laughing at. So I told them. For at least 6 traffic lights myself and the couple next to me laughed hysterically.
It was a good day :-)

Many thanks to you and the DC Chapter for representing those of us who could not be there in front of the White House, and Cheney's house. Were it not for you wonderful patriots, I am convinced Gore would have succeeded in stealing the election.
The DC Chapter and the Floridia freepers are our heroes!

Yeah, Nan it was your first photo of you and Angelwood that had everyone scurrying around trying to lighten up...lol.....
I am sorry I left the thread so abruptly. Mr. Daisy wanted to watch a movie-We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson. Is that weird or what? It was right about the time Aqua posted the picture of the Vietnam Memorial and Dave made a post about it and in walks Mr. Daisy with that movie...Since I really wanted to see the movie and since I had spent a good part of the day Freeping, I could hardly refuse to watch it with him...Then it was time for dinner and dinner cleanup etc.
But I am back now and, as Just Amy would say, TA DA, here is the picture of Nan (well the back of her head anyway) and Rep. Henry Hyde at the House Managers Dinner....

Good evening and thanks for brightening up the thread with that cute cheerleader graphic....

This has to be one of the finest presentations I have ever seen on FR. I LOVE the DC Chapter, and count many of the members as my best friends. Some of the fondest memories of my life are of freeping with these guys in front of the White House.
Long live the DC Chapter of Free Republic!
