I don’t think the teachers’ union are ‘Hate America’ types.

I am not convinced of this statement.

George W. Bush had a rare opportunity after 11 September. He could have attempted to reverse the most toxic tide in the Western world: the sappy multiculturalism that insists all cultures are equally valid, even as they’re trying to kill us. He could have argued that Western self-loathing is a psychosis we can no longer afford. He could have told the teachers’ unions that there was more to the second world war than the internment of Japanese-Americans, and it’s time they started teaching it to our children.

Yeah.
He could have.
Instead, he approved more funding for the Dept. of Education and created a new government bureaucracy: "No Child Left Behind"

He he. He even slammed Springsteen. There's nothing blue collar about Springsteen and Mellencamp. They are ashamed of their audiences.

Classic Steyn. Starts off with some light jabs and hits harder and harder.

Steyn doesn't like the compassionate conservatives. BTW I want also my capitalists to be the grumpy old men of old, not the purfumed, coiffed, hyper-refined media slicksters of today.

They even changed the portraits on the money to be youthful and relevant. I want the portrait of Lincoln to look like he's worrying about something, not to look like he's ready for MTV.

I have not read it yet, but according to The Fourth Turning author's, the real leaders are around the corner. Who they are, we do not know yet. I like Bush, but he disappoints me with his utter failure to call a spade a spade. He has the American publi on his side - all he has to do is explain it. He has great speachwritters and they can do it, but he doesn't. Something will happen that will cause America to turn to someone more vocal and stronger. Bush can still do it but I have the feeling he will start to lose people. It would be nice that after Iraq, he tells us that he has had a change of heart concerning Islam.

By ‘Islam is peace’, they mean that once the whole world’s converted to Islam there will be peace, but not before.

When the heck are we in the west going to get this???

Another great one from Steyn. He's approaching de Toqueville status, but with a sense of humor added. Sometimes it takes a foreigner to see clearly and describe accurately the essence of being American. I am grateful for this man's abilities to do exactly that.

Bravo to Mark Steyn for clear thinking.

Western self-loathing is primarily a subject thoroughly written about and taught in our schools of higher education. What K – 12 missed, these purveyors of the Machiavellian approach to life continue to assault the mindless once in college. “The Ugly American” is still their ‘bible’ and a best seller these days in the Mid-East and Europe.

Tolerance/Political Correctness are America’s Achilles Heel not only to the media/press but to the Islamic world as well.

The letters I have received from some NEA members tell me I have it all wrong in condemning their approach to 9/11...they can’t see what has happened to them they are so indoctrinated in Socialism/Marxism and the continued studies of John Dewey. Do you remember when Bill Clinton said loud and clear...”all children should be able to read by the eighth grade”? The children of the 60’s and 70’s are the very products of such professors and are now trying to lead our country in their failed attempts of that idyllic fantasy...socialism.

Being Compassionate brings with it the huge responsibility of doing the right thing, ethics and integrity. No lying; no Cheating therefore no Political Correctness and no Tolerance for evil.

I wonder if Steyn will ever write an essay that's less than excellent? He seems to have an infallible touch.

Bush has done a lot of good things, but he has let us down badly here.

The very fact this issue even needs to be discussed in a serious and defensive manner indicates how badly we are losing the struggles for the hearts and minds the Liberals continue to influence with their idiotic notions!

Just tune in to any Arab TV station for Friday prayers: ‘O God, destroy the Jews and their supporters. O God, destroy the Christians and their supporters and followers, shake the ground under them, instil fear in their hearts, and freeze the blood in their veins.’

That’s Sheikh Akram Abd-al-Razzaq al-Ruqayhi, some hotshot imam live from the Grand Mosque in Sanaa on 9 August on Yemeni state TV. It’s the local equivalent of ‘Thought for the Day’, and even more predictable. Here’s the same dude a week earlier: ‘O God, deal with Jews and their supporters and Christians and their supporters and lackeys,’ he prayed. ‘O God, count them one by one, kill them all, and don’t leave anyone.’

Another state TV channel, another mosque, another imam, same script: ‘O God, deal with the occupier Jews for they are within your power,’ said Sheikh Anwar al-Badawi on 2 August live from the Umar Bin-Al-Khattab Mosque in Doha on Qatar Television. ‘O God, count them one by one, kill them, and don’t leave any one of them.’

Same sheikh a week later: ‘O God, destroy the usurper Jews and the vile Christians.’

What a rube that Steyn is. Doesn't he recognize Muslim hyperbole when he sees it?
