A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

A FR'S FINEST TRIBUTE to the PRAYER THREADS OF FREE REPUBLIC
PRAYER REQUEST THREAD
All FR members are welcome to post prayer requests and prayers for themselves, friends, family, loved ones or anyone in need - friends and strangers alike - on this thread. These prayer requests are often linked in the Daily Prayer Thread (see below) the following day.
There is no particular FReeper who initiates or hosts this thread; it is available for all and is a very efficient way to get a prayer request on the Forum in a timely manner.
To do this, simply go to the Home Page of FR, look under Daily Forum Threads and click on Prayer Requests. You may add your prayer request to the latest thread or post a new Prayer Request from the existing thread.
Psalm 121: "I lift my eyes to the hills. From whence does my help come? My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth..."

DAILY PRAYER THREAD
We have been blessed to have had a Daily Prayer Thread on FR for approximately the last two years.. Billbears has been initiating the Daily Prayer Thread for about the last year and half and has rarely missed a day in doing so.The typical Daily Prayer Thread begins with links to individual prayer requests posted on FR during the past three or four weeks. Both new Prayer Requests and follow-up on previously requested prayers are included in these links. Billbears then posts a prayer, usually a Scripture reading, and usually from the King James Version of the Holy Bible. This is followed by an open forum in which prayer requests are made and prayers are offered up.
James 5: [15] And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. [16] Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

PRAY FOR BUSH DAY 7--
DittoJed2 began posting the Pray for Bush Thread as a FR daily thread on September 16, 2000. It was in the midst of the Presidential Campaign and DittoJed2 "saw that the truth was not being made to prevail...the Press was being extremely lopsided in their coverage......."and she felt that starting a Pray For Bush Thread would be a good idea. Following the election, the Pray for Bush thread continued so that we could pray for President Bush, and those around him, during his Presidency.
At approximately the same time, DittoJed2 began a website PRAY FOR PRESIDENT BUSH. This was probably the first such website on the internet. This website links to FR Pray for Bush Thread and the FR Pray for Bush Thread in turn links to the Pray for President Bush website.
The Pray for Bush thread on FR begins with a prayer and/or Scripture offered up by DittoJed2 and is followed by prayers posted by FR Forum members to lift up our President and those around him. Often, an appropriate photograph is posted. And special prayers are offered for special events in the life of President Bush and his duties as President. Lately, prayers have also been offered for the return of God's ways in the nation and the return of God's ways in the Church.
Below are some links to past Pray for Bush threads.Day1 Election Day Supreme Court Decision-late in Thread Inauguration Day 9/11 First Year Anniversary of Pray for Bush Thread
Psalm 33: 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.

Thank You Jim Robinson for providing running Prayer Threads on the FR Forum.
Thank You billbears and DittoJed2 for initiating these Prayer Threads daily.
And Thank You FR Prayer Warriors.

Beautiful thread Daisyscarlett and DittoJed2 thank you for your example of faithfulness.
God Bless America
by Irving Berlin
While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.
God Bless America.
Land that I love
Stand beside her, and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America
My home sweet home.

Back again (it's nap time). Thanks, all, for your kind words.
In answer to your question, Nan, in this particular denomination, the candidate is examined by a council of ordained ministers and they vote yay or nay.
If the candidate is accepted, they then proceed to an ordination service. The candidate may choose whomever he or she wishes to participate in the service. I happened to be a deacon in that church when my friend began attending. I also happened to be one of many individuals who were instumental in his accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. As years passed, GOD called him to the ministry.
At the end of the ordination service, all of the ordained ministers present came forward, layed hands on him and commissioned him in prayer to become a Minister of the Gospel. He accepted a call to pastor a church in Montana and recently was called to another church here in California. In this denomination, the pastors are called by individual churches, not appointed as is the case in some denominations.
As an aside, I felt the call to the ministry but GOD had other plans. Many are called - but few are chosen. My calling is not as a pastor, but instead, a layman to witness and share the Gospel - Ever ready to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Good to see ya. W's not faking it even a little bit, and it is so refreshingly wonderful to see.

What a wonderful spotlight today. The daily prayer thread has been such a source of comfort for so many freepers, freeper families and freeper friends. Thanks billbears for keeping this site up and running each day.
DittoJed2. Your daily pray for Bush thread is particularly comforting to many of us...especially when you see him fighting the evil outside of and within our country.
daisyscarlett. Thanks for an heartlifting spotlight.
BTW...now that I've finally learned how to post real pictures can anyone tell me how and where to save so many of these wonderful graphics as well as post them. I am obviously computer graphically challanged LOL!
To: Diver Dave
What a wonderful story. You were used by God to bring others into His fold. People don't realize that everyone is a minister...a servant for the Lord. We are called to different ministries. If we listen to that call we will be doing what God has called us to do, and will be happy in that calling. We are also called to different things at different times. God may yet call you into the ministry. Regardless, you are a blessing to us here. Thank you.

Hi neighbor. You can put some of them on your profile page. Or you can borrow space on Netscape. The more computer literate people can give you pointers on other sites.

Quietly, for my Uncle, who passed away in his sleep early this morning....and for his wife. Dads brother, my Uncle Gene served in the Army. He went in at age 16 to get away from an evil stepfather that beat his stepkids and ran all six of them off. Uncle Gene was 69 years old and diagnosed with multiple cancers just a few weeks ago. Since they told him that the chemotherapy would likely kill him because of his weakened condition, he opted for no chemotherapy.
His request to Aunt Darlene was to be cremated and no service. He didn't want anyone to make a big to-do over him. Uncle Gene was quite unique, and he'll be missed......

Five Finger Prayer
1. Thumb
Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you.
They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C.S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty".
2. Pointing finger
The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers.
They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.
3. Tallest finger
The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators.
These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.
4. Ring finger
The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is fact that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain.
They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.
5. Little finger
And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others.
As the Bible says, "the least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinky should remind you to pray for yourself.
By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.
Remember to give thanks in all things and ask forgiveness. And pray to do God's will always!
