California warns home schoolers

School officials in California are warning parents that they cannot educate their children at home unless they obtain professional teaching credentials.

Without the proper credentials, parents no longer can file required paperwork that would authorize them to home school their children, states a memo issued by the state Department of Education. As a result, those children not attending public schools would be considered "truant" by local school districts.

Well, I must admit that you hold the moral High Ground. My appeal to practicality goes back to my grade school and early junior-high days when my parents, in desperation, bribed me to get good grades (history was the only subject that never needed inducement).

This is a case of me defending, and thereby justifying, my own early character flaws. ;-]

My dad got me cool stuff when I got straight "A"'s...It worked for a while...but then I discovered Beer and The "fairer"(LOL if I knew then what I know NOW!:) sex!

Welcome to supplement?

At least they still allow that, for a while anyway.

And now Spelling bee's are off limits to home schooled children because they're considered ringers!

Requesting more info on this, please. I haven't heard anything about this, and if true, I'd be surprised, but not shocked.

I think its been covered on FR although I haven't tried searching on keywords...What I recalled about it was that the schools were up in arms because the home schooled kids were just DOMINATING the Spelling bees...LOL! Like the union workers threatening the new hire who's working too fast, the lib teachers don't want to see homeschooling do better than their PC, feelings-over-achievement, liberal indoctrination camps...

Major Apologies to our FR Teachers! I live in Seattle, A Liberal Cesspool and can't imagine being a conservative and trying to change the structure of our educational system from within...I'd bust an artery in the first week...I can't even stand looking at pictures of my representatives...eew!

Thanks! We need to make more people aware of just how corrupt the NEA actually is. They constantly violate parents' rights. The NEA and their state affiliates are opposed to Homeschooling. And the NEA and their state affiliates continue to break federal law by illegally using teacher union dues for political purposes.

A simple way to do this is to call the Association of American Educators and ask them for for some of their brochures. Print out (approximately business card size) the following information and staple it to the brochure:

Grading the NEA
What Every Teacher Needs to Know About The
National Education Association:
A Special Report

www.family.org/gradingthenea/news/a0012243.html

Pass these out to teachers, parents, and college students who are education majors. Every time a teacher refuses to join the NEA, resigns their membership or asks for a refund, we put another chink in the NEA's financial armor. (It's also important to stand with and support those teachers who take this action because the NEA union thugs won't like it, and some will try to intimidate the teachers).

We filled out the application to join the HSLDA earlier this week. It takes a few weeks to process the application so we're not members yet. Soon...

Your post is right on as far as the licensing by the state is concerned. I'm sure you also realize that the "state of" (in this case Calif.) is nothing more than a corporation attempting to control all aspects of our lives. We have to throw off the shackles of a public school (fool) education and learn how we're handing over more and more of indivdual sovereignty to nameless, faceless corporate fictions.

Yes, most of the time. When I don't it's because my foot is usually in my mouth!
