Dear Freepers:
I just returned from the First Annual Free Republic Network Convention in Las Vegas.
The Free Republic Network Cruise last October was the most fun I've ever had in my whole life. The Free Republic Network Conference I just attended was the most informative and inspiring two days I've ever had in my whole life.
The Free Republic Network is stretching its muscle, not by talk, but by action. The Free Republic forum is liberty's college. The Free Republic Network is liberty's workplace.
If you attended, please use this thread to post your observations, comments and highlights of the conference. I will give mine below. But before I do, I'd like to take this time to thank Bob Johnson and the FRN board for putting on this conference. It's hard for me to find the words to adequately describe how great this experience was--and how much I learned.

Basicly, (Matt Lewis' answer; ed.)
answer was that to run a volunteer campaign, ringing doorbells, etc. would take almost the full amount of time of a consultant and a TV campaign only one day a week. In so many words, these people aren't really interested in winning (except to be successfull enough that they can get clients in the next election), only the money they can make. I seem to recall Matt discussing this at the conference as well. I think it belongs in the "official" record.

He did discuss it briefly in response to a question by myself. The telling part was what he said in private about the motive behind TV campaigning promoted by consultants for profit and not for winning.
I've always suspected that that was the case but he let the cat out of the bag.
To: dalereed
Yup. I kind of "edited" the part about the profit motive of consultants in the file - like you, I don't recall that specifically coming out at the conference. And, I'm trying to keep the record as "pure" as possible.

I've updated the
"official" conference transcript thread with everything posted here to this moment. It hasn't updated yet but should very soon.

Hey, WiMom. Good to hear from you.
I'm sure that elevator guy logged on to try FR. What was really funny was, do you remember the very inebriated woman who tried to get into the conversation we were having with the elevator guy? You were talking up FR to the elevator guy. She looked at me and asked, "Is she [WiMom] on a tangent?" I really didn't know what to say. It didn't appear that she and I spoke a common language.
