MSNBC FUTURE IN DOUBT
DrudgeReport.com ^ | August 18, 2002

"The fall may be the make-or-break time for MSNBC," NEW YORK TIMES TV hotshot Bill Carter is preparing to write in Monday editions.

According to newsroom sources, Carter is set to warn how "future investment and promotion budgets for the channel" may be at risk during the coming months, as the all-news network continues to slump in the ratings, lead by the nearly still-born DONAHUE.

The pressure is coming from the very top of the MSNBCNBCGE tree.

Earlier this year, at a meeting of NBC's top management, Jeffrey Immelt, the chairman of GENERAL ELECTRIC, specifically cited MSNBC as the area of NBC that most needed attention. "He gave the order," a senior NBC executive has told Carter said, "and the order was, 'Fix it."'

As for the ailing DONAHUE, MSNBC prez Erik Sorenson tells Carter: "We're in the silly season. The news is so slow; it's been the summer of kidnappings. That plays more toward [CNN's] Connie [Chung]. Her show is cotton candy. It's all tabloid, all the time."

Sorenson said that come fall DONAHUE will start to take advantage of more hard news developments. "We'll have an election to cover and a war in Iraq," Sorenson said.

Beyond that, look for Donahue to book more celebrities. "He's going to have Oprah on and Harrison Ford and George Clooney," Sorenson said. "I don't honestly expect to have an answer on this until November."

"If I had Philth Donahue on my network, the last thing I would be talking about is someone else's tabloid host"

No kidding! LOL

One would think they would have learned something from Politically Incorrect's demise!

You also my condolences, too. Almost makes you nostalgic for the old Armed Forces Radio & Television Service, doesn't it?

Note I said ALMOST.

If I am understanding you correctly, and I am not sure I am, you are proposing that the media is running the show, and the RATS are carrying out the agenda?

That is a possibility I suppose, although perhaps it is just that the two groups have the same goal, the Socialization of the United States?

Except for IMUS there is little on MSNBC worth watching. I wish he would let Bernard and Charles have more dialog. Bernard is a true Hillary hater and funny.

DITTO!

The woman is a walking, talking, visual cliche. She impresses those who only prefer form to substance.

I can't say I'm proposing it as much as throwing it out for debate. Of the two; Rats and Weasels(media), which has far and away the more influence? The weasels can function without the Dims, but the Dims cannot function without the weasels, IMO.

That is a possibility I suppose, although perhaps it is just that the two groups have the same goal, the Socialization of the United States?

Seems so. The Dims coalition of victims, the sheeple, is fertile ground for the media propagandists. I would submit to you, that of the two, the one with the most power and influence over the sheeple could by default be the one calling the shots. Which one is that????????

We can get Voice of America but it is pretty much like PRN with static. The Thai soap operas are like 1950's USA soaps! Cartoon like overacting.

Thank you for directing me to the previously posted thread. It was very enlightening, and as you pointed out, post 50 was great, and I agree totally with the poster.

I studied journalism before the tabloid era, and I see everything I ever learned is not applied to what passes for journalism today. I had never been able to make myself realize that it is considered entertainment today until now. You have convinced me, and it makes me sad.

You know they will never, ever admit that landPhil will be cancelled over ratings. He will bow out, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family. I wouldn't be surprised if some "condition" crops ups, forcing him to get his rest. If they were to admit that he had low ratings, it would be to say that landPhil was "too intelligent for the average public."

Well, you have really given me food for thought. The answer to that is obvious isn't it. It is the media of course.

I am intrigued now, and I will have to do some research won't I?

You'll let me know how you make out? I doubt you'll find much in the way of emperical evidence to indict the media. To me it's a matter of putting 2 and 2 together; it intuitively make sense to me.

Looking at it another way, if you were a spineless, gutless, unethical, immoral wimp that wanted to become a professional politician, would you go against the media's and coincidentally(?) the Dim's agenda? Right, me neither. On the other hand, a politician of principle must battle the Ministry of Information on a daily basis.

Who was the Pubbie "darling" of the media up until the day "W" won the nomination for the party? The media puppetmasters liked John Mcain because he was/is a RINO. Seems they were close to pulling that one off...

The pen is mightier than the sword.

Reply #12. No, you are not alone. I like Nachman too. He's really pretty apolitical on his show. He does interesting vignettes that are from a different perspective than the rest of the viewpoints out there on a given subject. He goes for the more quirky perspective, or for the different slant on a topic. He looks at topics differently from the rest of the talking heads, more like a crusty old veteran newsman (which he is) that goes for the unusual spin on a story, rather than the typical party line; kind of like an older version of Daniel Pearl, who did the same thing, went for the different way to look at stories rather than the ordinary approach. I like the old coot. Also love to watch Kudlow and Cramer, and the Wall Street Journal discussion group with Paul Gigot, etc. If MSNBC tanks, I hope that Nachman gets picked up elswhere, and I also get a real kick out of Curtis Sliwa or Silva, or whatever his name is. He's witty and bright.

P.S., as to Donahoot, he will be there, I guarantee you, through the election, spouting his liberal propaganda and being a shill for the Dems, via the tool the liberal MSNBC has given him, his crappy talk show. So, he won't be pulled until post the mid-term elections, unfortunately, and we are stuck with his drivel. Well, actually we aren't, because conservatives won't watch. But some wishy-washy types will and that's why he will remain on TV through the election, in order to attempt to sway the ignorant masses to the dem's camp. Yuck.
