August 14, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - A shocking new poll shows Al Sharpton looms as a player in Democratic presidential politics who could become the new Jesse Jackson, although Al Gore remains the favorite by a mile.
Gore is way ahead, at 41 percent, and no one else hits double digits in the battle for the 2004 nomination to challenge George W. Bush - but Sharpton is doing as well as any other Democratic wannabe.

And just why is it that this fellow has any credibility in any circle at all subsequent to the Tawana Brawley debacle?
Credibility is not the issue here. In the sick twisted world that the RATS live in, criminals and liars become the victims of society, so we should elevate them to a higher status because they have been victimized. Sharpton was the victim in the Tawana Brawley situation, just axe anyone.

Well, since we're into splitting hairs this morning regarding language usage, I have experienced africanhyphenamericans using "axe" in place of "ask". I had a young africanhyphenamerican college graduate assigned to work for me in industrial engineering several years ago. He was fully trained by one of the experienced I.E.'s. During the course of the training he turned to the old timer said, "I want to axe you a question. Why fo we be do dis?" He also advised me that he was smarter than anyone in the office because he "be havin' fo degrees". He was one of many who spoke that way.

You've got it all wrong. He's the only hope for "Social Justice" in America and we have to support his run at the Democratic nomination.
Run Al run, only you can do it for us!

When Al ran for mayor of New York a few years back, his campaign HQ was on 8th avenue across the street from my apartment. Hanging on the building was a big sign that read: (a direct quote)
Sharpton for Mayor
"It could happen!"
I feel I have to support the nomination of any democrat with such a clear view of the political landscape.

The question is.......why are there any democrat voters at all? Other than people who aspire only to minimum wage jobs and need the government to give them a 50cent raise every year, no one should even consider voting for ANY democrat candidate.

Heck, I worked with a very nice totally white lady who said "axed" as well as butchering other common words. I don't think color has a thing to do with it.

Oh, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let this be true! It would be a nightmare for the Democrats, an ideological bloodbath, and you have to admit, there are few things more entertaining than watching the liberals eat one of their own.
Rev. Al would get the kneejerk black vote, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of middle-class blacks would be so turned off and embarrassed by him that they'd vote Republican. But even if the Rev did corral the black vote, he'd never be a serious player as a candidate for President.
The Democrats will nominate a centrist candidate to run against GWB; Rev. Al will make a bunch of noise about running as an Independent, thus playing "spoiler" to the Democrats, but this will not be sincere.
He will eventually use his black constituency as a bargaining chip with the Democrats in exchange for any manner of backdoor deals he can make, and on election day, he will deliver the liberal black vote to the Democrats.
Business as usual...
Of course, I'm privately hoping I'm wrong, I would REALLY love to see Sharpton as the official Democratic nominee. He would make George McGovern's election debacle pale by comparison.

Within 7 days there will be a hit piece in the NYT on the good Rev. Sharpton, making it well apparent that the democratic leadership (read Bill Clinton) believe he may be getting a little too "uppity".

I would suggest that his 5% is due to those polled not being able to remember the names of the other Democrat candidates.
Drugs, you know.

I cringe when I recall that hate filled detestable counter inaugural he held in DC while the real President was being sworn in! If ever I saw a hate crime in action, this was it.
Who will be his running mate, Maxine Waters?
Calgon take me away!
To: mhking; Registered
Maybe Sharpton could be Gore's running mate. Registered would have a field day with slogans about:
"Al an Al"
To: nopardons
No,we down here in La. use "axe" a lot. " I went on down to the Audubon Zoo, where they all axed for you"
To: Northern Yankee
Can you imagine the confusion in the primaries if Al Gore, and Al Sharpton run against each other?..."I thought I was voting for the other Al... I want a recount!"
Don't even take these primaries to Dade County!
LOL!! Bump!!!!

Sharpton runs even with House Democratic leader Dick Gephardt, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts and 2000 contender Bill Bradley - all at 5 percent - and just 1 point behind Gore's 2000 running mate, Joe Lieberman, at 6. This is really spooky!
It means that 26% of polled democrats believe that Sharpton, Gephardt, Kerry, Bradly or Lieberman would made an acceptable PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
Beam me up!

If I was any of these others and that is the best I could do I would be ashamed to be seen in public. Then again, I am not a Demonrat. These people have no shame.
I would love to be a reporter at a Gephardly, Cash&Kerry or LIEberman interview and ask how they could be tied with or only one point ahead of The Rev. Al.

Don't have a lot of Cubans here in Texas, but the one I did know spoke impeccable English after being here only two years. He would complain about the Mexicanos here because they "couldn't speak Spanish"--at least not good enough for his Cubano ears. Too much slang, I believe.
