Bushies Bail in Mid-Radio Interview at Mention of Rubin Charges

White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card and Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill ran afoul of President Bush's "new tone" policy Tuesday afternoon, forcing them to bail out midway through a national radio interview rather than criticize former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin for possible Enrongate influence peddling.

Card and O'Neill were being interviewed simultaneously by nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity, who reached the two administration officials at President Bush's economic summit in Waco, Texas.

The exchange went like this:

HANNITY: Let me ask you one last question before you go. Robert Rubin, one of your predecessors, made a call to Peter Fischer, who works for you, and asked Fischer to intervene with the independent credit rating agencies to help Enron's credit rating stay artificially high.

Do you know anything else about this call - and whether Rubin or one of his associates made any other calls to your department? And what do you think of Joe Lieberman and Carl Levin refusing to call Rubin to testify and explain his call to your department?

O'NEILL: Sean, I've got to go do another interview.

HANNITY: You can't answer that question?

O'NEILL: Talk to you again. Thanks. Bye.

HANNITY: You want to answer that, Andy?

CARD: Well, you know, it's a great tendency in politics to want to go back and play the blame game. And that's not what this president's about. He's looking for ... (line goes dead)

HANNITY: Yeah, you there? I guess we just got cut off. (To producer) Did you hit the wrong line? You did? I guess we just lost them. Alright, well. Just when I'm getting to the good stuff. Don't you hate that. It's driving me nuts. Maybe if we can get them back, we'll try. (End of Excerpt)

O'Neill and Card, needless to say, never called back.

I motion that anyone who "shotgun blasts" threads with posts directly dedicated to defending a politician, then has a picture of said politician at the top of their profile, gets a "Do Not Listen To" tag placed next to their screenname.

Can I get a second on that motion?

Try different tactics, your current ones aren't cutting it.

House panel subpoenas Citigroup over IPO offerings

This was a story that broke on Yahoo this afternoon. Perhaps these guys didn't want to comment because they knew this was happening. I personally think getting Rubin under oath on TV is more important than making a comment to Sean Hannity, but that is just my opinion, after all.

I guess it's hard to fight like a street hoodlum or socialist crook when you're Ivy League.

The rats use propganda better than Goebbels and the Nazi's and will lie, cheat, murder, and steal to gain and keep power.

The GOP is pathetic at getting it's message out

The RNC leadership should be replaced immediately with people that understand the concept of presenting a united front and coherent simple message for the simpletons across the land that call themselves moderates.

So, we've found this year that a number of large companies are filled with liars. We are used to liars because of the clinton administration. But, we didn't know that most of our stocks were based on lies, nor did we know that ethics had disappeared long ago, and the leadership of some very large companies has lied and hoodwinked many an investor, but we now know.

We knew the clintons were liars, and we've discovered that some in business are as well, but now, we see some in the Bush admin running away from the truth.

We are suffering from a severe lack of faith.

Please see my comment in Reply 43, in which I provide a link to show everyone that Citigroup was subpoenaed this afternoon by the House Finance committee.

I think it quite likely that Card and O'Neill knew this was happening, and did not want to release any information prior to the papers being served.

You can lose faith if you wish, although pardon me if I am a bit doubtful that you ever had any. I trust an administration that does things, rather than talking.

Does things, huh? How many indictments against Enron have they "done"?

Oh, I see. Enron is your base line.

Wait and see. I trust when there are indictments, you will be back here to shower praises on the President.

NEWSMAX IS FEEDING YOU BULLS%^T!

I was listening to the show and even though Newsmax is giving us the transcript, they don't tell you what Shawn said a little bit later.

It was something like "Damn, I think I did that'" If you listen to the radio feed from the website Sean gives you the impression HE dropped Card and NOT the other way around.

Once again Newsmax is trying to tuen us against ourselves....

Haven't there already been indictments against OTHER corporations that have been mired in scandal for far less time than Enron has? I trust that you are certain that there's a good reason for this though...

Interesting simultaneous dangling conservative conversations. Good for Sean though, keeping the heat on.

Someday, somehow, President Bush's new tone strategery should really reflect on how we are as a civilized Republic. It is a noble and majestic approach that is perhaps harder to follow and adhere to when it is far easier for most men to lash out.

Fortunately, despite the overly pious sweet and soft smooth talking by the democrat leadership, their snarling words barely hides the vicious attitude towards our well liked and respected President.

Evidently President Bush knows the secret of 'killing them with kindness'. And, by the volume of their squeals, he sure enough is. He's got them lassoed and hobbled with only one strategy that the democrat leaders have in their quiver, and that is the politics of personal destruction. So while Americans are waging a war against terrorism, the democrats appear to be waging a verbal war against our President.

Hey, give 'em credit, they are focused alright, but the focus is surely misplaced and such a waste of negative energy that they are not accomplishing anything to brag about. While President Bush certainly can, and perhaps should, brag more often, but happily, it's just not his style.

President Bush gladly and honestly gives the American citizen credit for staying the course and keeping the faith.

I did have a lot of faith in Bush. I still have some. He's far better than the commie alternatives in the DNC. But, he's not been perfect, nor even close to it. Yet, theres no need to go into all of that here. My point is that we've seen government, business, religions, etc. all torn apart in the past handfull of years. If we don't lose some faith in these institutions, we are sticking our heads in the sand.

Well, the Democrats claim they're shouting so much because they feel people's pain. And there is pain, regardless of whether the Democrats give a rip or merely want power.

As for why the Democrats aren't achieving much, they claim it's because they control neither the White House nor the House of Reps. And they barely control the Senate (thank the Lord).

If the Democrats advance in November, the following two years will be tough indeed. It's up to us to pressure our own political party to shape up, or else there will be plenty of shrapnel for us all. There's still time, and it's good that this forum is trying to keep our elected officials "honest".

Thanks, Mr Bush is trying to walk the proverbial walk and take things to a higher plane ... And in so doing , he is upsetting the continuum we call Congress. That, in and of itself, is worthy of praise. The Good Lord knows We need a good thumping of the dems to silence the Gores and McAuliffes and the Clintons of the world.

November 5th. Let the Thumping Begin.

I didn't "shotgun blast" anything. I conversed with others on the thread's subject, which is more than you did. Your ONLY post on this thread was this insulting post to me. Go pound sand.

Really? I seem to remember that Bill Clinton wouldn't miss a chance to blame everything on his predecessor and dwell on the past. Everything that came out of his mouth for eight years is the "failures" of the Reagan-Bush years. Give me a break. It's obvious that Clinton successfully worked the system to his advantage and that neither party wants to go backwards to call him on it.

It's like this: Rubin was a government official, and according to Bush doctrine, government officials can do no wrong -- be they Rubins, Clintons, Kennedys, Democrats or Republicans. The only people who can do wrong in this world are people from the private sector, people like corporate CEO's or private investors. Bush wants to spend $200 million of our money on AIDS prevention as a top priority, yet Martha Stewart should be lynched on the steps of the NYSE for saving about $30,000 on an insider trade.

Martha saved about $ 227,000, by selling ImClone stock, when she did. What she did, WAS insider trading; which IS a crime.

What Rubin did, as a private citizen, IS suspicious and IS being looked into.

Do try to keep up. :-)
