Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Posted on 08/07/2002 4:23:30 PM PDT by Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

parts of Westchester County

OH PUHLEEZE! I live in Brooklyn and would not be caught DEAD in that hell hole. Between the welfare cases in Yonkers and Mt. Vernon and the JAPS (not talkin' Asian here) in Scarsdale and Chappaqua, to say nothing of the liberal politicians, you couldn't get me to move to that overpriced hellhole. The only suburban areas worse in the northeast are Nassau and Suffolk Counties (Lawn Guyland).

You are right about one thing, Morris County is very nice. My favorite counties in Jersey, however, are Warren, Sussex and Ocean.

There was almost a damn riot a few months ago on Speedwell Ave when Colombia won some soccer game, and everyone decided it would be a good idea to hang out of moving cars, off of buildings, etc. with Colombian flags.

So that's where the sexy Colombian girls are around here! I gotta take the NJT train there tomorrow...

I think you are letting ideology intrude. I myself don't mind living among liberals - in fact I quite like it. Variety is the spice of life. Having said that, I live where liberals are almost non existent, and I miss them. The ghettos of Yonkers and Mt Vernon are atypical of the county, but then you know that already.

As a Washifornian (from California moved to Washington), at least California gave me the opporunity to vote for Sony Bono. Thank goodness for the east side of Washington (as opposed to the dark side). Still, to many here vote libertarian and elect people like Cantwell and Murrey.

Believe me, this place has physical, God-given beauty, but the people are mostly warped, and you'll look long, long and hard to find a fellow conservative.

My husband, whose parents and a brother now live in Oregon, agrees with you 110%. Warped.

Has the dreary and depressing state of Hawaii been nominated yet? PU....

Only the politics sucks here, and that has a strong likelihood of actually changing this November. If Lingle loses it's because the Democrats stole yet another election.

Come over to my corner of Brooklyn. Most people here are middle-of-the-road, but are WAY OUTNUMBERED by the Dem-Socialists in the rest of the borough.

As somebody who has lived in downstate NY for most of his life, I can safely say that you can fit all the true conservatives into a phone booth. The so-called CONSERVATIVE party is going to endorse Dem-Socialist lite Pataki for governor again. Try talking to an average downstater about gun control and spending and you will see my point.

Then again, NYC remains for me THE GREATEST PLACE ON EARTH. One of the few places left where you can WALK to shopping, bars, restaurants, etc. Mock me if you wish, but it is the only place I've ever felt truly at home, with the exception of the god-awful politics statewide.

Large parts of NC have switched to Republican on local level too, and have Republican congressmen. NC deserves a lot better government than it has, which is true of many states.

If all Christian believers would turn out and vote solid Republican, we could make some changes in how the State works. Still too many Christians are sending their kids to Satan's schools to be turned into feminized leftists, and that is now beginning to show at the polls.

Illinois is a wonderful state.

If it's so great, why don't you still live there?

Illinois is a politically correct rat hole.
Illinois is also the home of some of the worse gun laws in the country
The most gerrymandered congressional district ( the 17th)
Some of the most crooked politicians in our history
Chicago is being over run with illegal immigrants
Illinois has high taxes, and they're going higher
About the only good thing I can say about the place is that we don't have a motorcycle helmet law.
( Damn!, How'd they miss that!)

Illinois does in fact have a motorcycle helmet law, unless that law has recently been repealed.

I don't think you are going to ever find a place in the country where you are going to be one hundred percent happy with the politicians, the political climate, the immigration situation, taxes and the like. These are signs of the times, and I do honestly believe we conservatives have to deal with them everywhere. Sure, some places are better than others, but you are never going to be free from any of those problems. So the real question should be: "Now that we have identified the armpit states, what are we going to do about it?"

I moved out of Illinois to take a job in Indiana, not because I was running from immigrants, or the taxes, or the political correctness. You can't run from those problems because they exist EVERYWHERE! Crooked politicians are everywhere. So are ignorant politicians. We have one from Indiana who is absolutely off her rocker...Julia Carson. It sounds like she is eating breakfast everytime I hear her on the radio talk shows!

I would like to go back to Illinois someday, not because I would be running from anything here, but because it is my home. People have the power to change the political climate, get rid of corrupt politicians, and change the course of the political future. Isn't that what Free Republic is all about? Isn't that what the USA is all about? Do we just sit and let the socialists dictate the change in this country?

Rather than making plans of running from our homes, or from where we are living because of politics, because of taxes, because of the social nature of the place, shouldn't we do everything to try and change it for the better?

I think Blues to Blues Rock (the best rock) is and has always been the best musical union of black and white and I'm proud my home state (which oddly escaped being the armpit most frequently mentioned....I guess favorite whipping boy state will do) ...anyhow, I'm proud my home state is undeniably the birthplace from which the blues sprang. A pic of Son House ( Robert Johnson is merely a runner-up)hangs on my wall....if I could only get my scanner to recognize it's drivers again, I'd put it on my profile page.

Regards.

But for the overall "a-hole" prize, it's hard to beat Cleveland!

I have to disagree with you. Evidently you have not been here in awhile, or perhaps you have never been here. You must be referring to the east side of town, specifically the projects. While I don't live in the city, I still have pride in it. Besides, there are just as many left-wingers in Youngstown, Toledo, and Dayton. You must be from the Queen City.

Kalifornia, I agree. It has more regulations than it does rattle snakes and some of them snakes have governmental positions.

They bring in a tremendous amount of revenue, the world's third largest economy, and yet have managed their way into deficit spending.

People generally, will tolerate most anything as long as it does not interfere with or disrupt their lifestyles and we have every warped, twisted and perverted kind of lifestyle that exist on the planet. Of course this is packaged and delivered as "diversity", which we are constantly reminded is a good thing.

It's a naturally beautiful place and the climate is good but it is grossly poluted by a bunch of wacko control freaks who are in a constant state of struggle for power.
