Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

I knew someone, a long time ago, who had a pen-pal in New Jersey. Just for a joke, he would answer in the affirmative every stereotypical question the guy had about Alabama. He had him believing that he had an outhouse in the backyard and no running water in the house.

Go to Bend. Bend is marvelous. Great skiing and one of the best pubs in the country (Deschutes Brewery, downtown).

I object. I have been to (really been to, not just driven through) 28 of these 50 United States, and I can guarantee that not a one of them deserves the wholesale condemnation that you seek. There may be neighborhoods within cities within regions within states that may, MAY, deserve the wholesale condemnation you seek, but I think we are, on the whole, NOT the armpit you seek. Sorry.

Funny, I never stated that I lived in the perfect state. And, yes, it is an armpit when you take into account the socialist influences you have out there. Let me ask you something; I have made statements about those socialist influences such as the envirowhackos, the militant homos, the feminazis, etc. NOWHERE have I said anything against conservative Californians. NOWHERE have I said anything about the land of California in itself. Now, taking that into account, what is your beef? I would be the first to admit that my own state has its own problems with stupid politicians or whatever. Just because Ronald Reagan and FR happen to come from California doesn't automatically mean it is an Utopia.

Did it ever occur to you that "liberals" (intelligent ones) can be enjoyable friends, neighbors, and dinner companians? Maybe you have some interests other than politics. Just a thought.

As a Native from Southern Cali, I agree. The out of state transplants are the nutters here. Most of the folks who were born/raised here are pretty conservative. And don't discount the very large population of vets from all services and the active duty folks. I vote for Taxachusetts for the preponerance of Kennedys (a big huge barf alert) and the fact that the Klintoons summered at Marthas Vineyard (where that heinous "dance" between the beast and beelzebubba occurred). Sorry MA FReepers!

What makes you think that I don't have friends who are liberals?

I have a lot of interests.

Than you might not think that living in an area with a lot of liberals is a living death. That is my point.

I was writing somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but truthfully, I find most of suburbia depressingly generic and utterly devoid of character or individuality.

Any big city is a stinking armpit. If you want to live like a human being instead of like a caged gerbil, do what I did, get out of the city and into the country. Out here in the farms, woods, and small towns, America is still God's country. Cities are the devil's cesspools and they will only get worse.

Of course, I'm just making all that up ha ha. I'm really sorry I moved here. None of you would like it out here. Really you wouldn't, trust me. It's really miserable living out here. This is an awful way to live. Don't come. Stay where you are, cities are really great. Believe me, no one in their right mind would live out here. For your own good, stay away. Please. Pretty please.

There is a difference between living around liberals and living around a bunch of socialists.

You know, I think I finally figured out the level of animosity here. A lot of you would have been ticked off enough if I had been from Boston, New York City, etc., but you are REALLY ticked off that some ignorant yokel from Alabama, of all places, happened to make a criticism of the very thing that you criticize yourselves. If I had said, Alabama is the armpit of the nation, you wouldn't have had a problem with it. Heck, you would have gotten a good laugh over it. Well, let me tell you, I know what I said and I know the intent behind it. I challenge you to find any proof of maliciousness I stated towards any conservative Californian on this thread.

Okay, I'll make it easy on you. Everybody outside of California hates it here, that's a given. Now if you think The Sequoias, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Big Sur, Monterey, Morro Bay, San Simeon, Santa Barbara, Malibu, Beverly Hills, Palm Springs, Newport Beach, Balboa Island, La Jolla, and Catalina Island, not to mention dozens of other areas and communities equally fantastic that I'm sure you've never heard of much less been to, are ARMPITS, well, whatever!

If the irony of the fact that you run down California, when the very site you do it on, that promotes the ideals you champion by the way, is located here escapes you, then I guess you missed the point..

Have you been to Morris County? How about suburban Wilmington County in Delaware, or the hunt country north of Baltimore? Or parts of Westchester County. Have you been to Los Gatos, California? Or for that matter Alameda on the East Bay side in California?

I don't for a moment think you are malicious. And it is so much about individual preference, and what we value and enjoy doing, not to mention where it is that we have our loved ones and friends. That is why while I appreciate that this is all in fun, in the end it is a totally inane exercise. The micro trumps the macro big time.

You are the one who has missed the point. As I have pointed out, ad nauseum, I WAS SPEAKING OF THE POLITICAL, NOT THE PERSONAL. I AM SPEAKING OF THE ENVIROWHACKO INFLUENCE, THE HOMOSEXUAL INFLUENCE, THE FEMINAZI INFLUENCE, PEOPLE LIKE MAXINE WATERS, BARBARA BOXER, ETC., THE ENORMOUS POLITICAL INFLUENCE OF HOLLYWOOD.

Guess what? I have heard of all of those places that you mentioned. You know how I know? I'll throw another shocker at you....I can read! How about that? A dumb redneck from Alabama who can read. I'll make this easy for you...I did not run down California, I ran down some of the socialist nuts who get elected. I ran down a corrupt city like Hollywood. If you can't understand that then, I give up.

I don't know what you see in Madison. Sure the buildings look nice and all, but the people are pure wannabe Euro-Trash. Morristown isn't that great either. There was almost a damn riot a few months ago on Speedwell Ave when Colombia won some soccer game, and everyone decided it would be a good idea to hang out of moving cars, off of buildings, etc. with Colombian flags.

The traffic is getting horrible in the areas around Morristown because of all of the commuters and there's also been a noticeable influx of people into the area from out of state.

Of course if you had just come out and said that Morris Plains is the best town in Morris County I wouldn't be bothering you at the moment ;-)
