Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Posted on 08/07/2002 4:23:30 PM PDT by Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

Hey, Hollywood does have a few redeeming values. Namely, the Roxy and the Whiskey!

There ya go.I'd like to had been there to catch the rock and roll legends when they did their gigs there.

Not likely. If they were from Bakersfield they'd be in a lowrider, drinking 40's and wearing Raiders jackets.

Agreed. Roads in Illinois are sub-par at best, and in the Chicago area they are just plain terrible. It's an old joke, but Illinois really does only have 2 seasons, Winter and road construction season.

Friendly yes except for those thieving bastards in Raleigh. This is really the most abusive tax system I have ever seen.

"As doped up as she acted..." Doped? Come on, she was drunk off her butt. It's time to admit that we've reached the end of the road when American television executives decide that "entertainment" is watching a bloated, washed-up alcoholic self-destruct before our very eyes. This woman needs help, not a TV 'reality' show.We really have become like the Romans watching the christians thrown to the lions, I think. It's sick, sick, sick.

I sure agree with you about the "physical, God-given beauty", but it seems as if the same nutjobs that ruined California are now busy destroying the Pacific Northwest (Washington State, too -

Well now, since most in California are from places like Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Alabama etc etc, sooo what your saying is that people from all over the country are f-ing up the country.

I would agree with that. Yep, I reckon your right...

Everyone knows that CA has more than one a**hole.

Hawaii and Rhode Island have slight redeeming features. But you do have a point about N Dak vs Calif. So, from the bottom:

51. Dist of Col.

50. Vermont

49. New York State

48. Massachusetts

47. North Dakota

46. Wisconsin

45. Minnesota

44. California

43. New Jersey

42. Michigan

41. Rhode Island

40. Hawaii

I was also born in Illinois and I do not share your opinion. Illinois is a wonderful state.

If Blago becomes Governor, we should take "Honest Abe" off the license plates and replace him with "Wheeler-Dealer Rostenkowski".

Another California bashing thread. **sigh**

Yeah, but ya know what? It doesn't even bother me anymore, especially when it's about politics. Consider all of the other states whose politicians are as bad if not worse than California's, so other than rock-ribbed conservative states (and I honestly can't think of any anymore), the Golden State isn't completely tarnished yet, not for me.

I was refering to the movies they had where they always portrayed people in Bakersfield as hayseeds in the seventies.I wouldn't know what it would be like these days.

Let me gives ya a hint. Ya lives in Florida officially, and taxes yoseff there.

Then, ya opens a trailer or mansion or whatever you can afford in NC, do your car insurance there, and so forth.

PS It's only number 4 anyway.

I'll start a new criteria.

THe most boring state to drive accross is....

Nebraska.

By that criteria, nebraska is the armpit of the country.

And if you want to judge by the least hospitable climate, my vote again is nebraska. Western nebraska is brutally boring and has the worst winters coupled to the worst summers anywhere in the country as far as I know. 100 degrees with 100 percent humidity in the summers, and well below zero in the winters. Spring and fall do not exist there. The only wildlife is pronghorns (sort of a cross between a goat and a deer, they bleat like sheep but not as frequently) and coyotes. There are no forests, no beaches, no lakes, and no mountains.
