This is one of the best, most accurate commentaries I've ever read on Hollywood and the media "elite". While for a long time I've stated that I wouldn't grieve were Hollywood to slide into the sea (even though I have relatives in the entertainment industry) I believe ignoring them would perhaps serve better. For a short, short time, 9/11 caused some people to think that Hollywood was not really vital to our nation and perhaps even detrimental to our culture... it will take more than 9/11, however, to fully realize how vastly unimportant Hollywood and the media elite really are.

Great article. It's great to hear from a celebrity who's actually grounded in reality.

This really is a Great speech - and he is a real "oddity" in Hollywood. Isn't it a shame.
There is however, a reason he was been Spinning that Wheel, with that wry little smile, for so many years.

bigotry \Big"ot*ry\, n. [Cf. F. bigoterie.] 1. The state of mind of a bigot; obstinate and unreasoning attachment of one's own belief and opinions, with narrow-minded intolerance of beliefs opposed to them.

Mr. Sajak won't be delivering any commencement addresses at Harvard any time soon.

Not bad at all for a guy who sells vowels. Perhaps the kids might have been juiced by someone talking about loftier things but Mr. Sajak did right by giving these kids such sage advice.
An aside: Years ago, Sajak had a late night talk show on ABC. One night while off on vacation he had Rush Limbaugh fill in for him. This was early before Limbaugh became the Golden One. He still worked for a living, and was funny to top it off. Anyway, Rush started the show only to find out that it had been by some ActUp types. Well he just about crapped his pants! (Truthfully, he was ascending back then and had little or no TV experience.) He didn't know if these guys were going to assassinate him or what. They ended up clearing the studio and Rush came on and did the show pretty much in an empty studio. Which explains why entrance to Rush's own TV show was by invite only. For awhile there he was the literal embodiment of the-deer-in-the-headlights!
True story. As they say, You can look it up.
To: thegreatbeast
Rush did not panic at the presence of the ACTUP morons, they had to clear the studio because the ACTUP morons kept disrupting taping. Do get your story correct.
To: harpu
How can you write about people fairly if they seem so out of touch with what you are used to in your everyday life? That might help explain why religion is rarely depicted as a natural part of life in the average sitcom or drama series, despite the fact that tens of millions of Americans say that it is important to them. This is the problem. Hollywood types are completely divorced from normal people (and from themselves as well). Most people laugh at them, and they're too self-important to even know it.
To: harpu
I did not pay much attention to Pat Sajak before (since I never got into watching "Wheel of Fortune.") But I now have a real respect for the man.

narrow-minded intolerance of beliefs opposed to themIf its possible to be bigoted toward homosexuality, and it isnt, by this definition the practice of perversion must only be a belief and not an innate characteristic. Funny, I thought they thought they were born that way. Bigotry by definition cannot be towards a behavior, otherwise Id be a soccer bigot. Bigotry really only extends to race, creed and color.
