So how does this policy change the fact that we all need to report criminal or suspicious activities to the authorities? This is nothing being made into something for political gain pure and simple. Perhaps the program isn't intended for political gain, but in the long run, I see no safeguards in place to prevent this from happening in the future.
Since the Patriot Act allows several (unconsititutional) actions to be taken merely on suspicion of wrong-doing (no evidence, little judicial oversight, no trial, etc.), I can see how "anonymous tips" could easily be used as political weapons by an unscrupilous administration.

The reason the government doesn't trust us is because they know that we don't trust them.
It's time to get back to a constitutional government.

What I meant was that the alarm over this is for political gain. Since when have we not been able to turn in our neighbors or report suspicious activities and, since when did the authorities not act on these tips. When I report criminal activities or suspicious activities I expect for the authorities to react.

Yes, if we stop fooling ourselves, and take a realistic look at Americas situation, we are in deep trouble, and things are getting worse with each administration.
You are correct in that eventually, our government will call for the total removal of all guns.
When that happens, I fully expect many will refuse and the battle will begin.

The Patriot Act - is only the latest 'kow-towing' of GW to the UN.
In this case the patriot act is America's response to the UN Resolution #1373.
Then, there is this quote:
We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people. ~~ John F. Kennedy

How about number seven: "you are all humorless, joyless twits"?
To: ArneFufkin
Aw, did someone disrespect your god? Sorry Arne, while we may agree on many things, that Bush is perfect is not one of them.

Bullcrap.

No, someone disrespected a group of Freeper women who I consider to be kind, optimistic and successful. Most of all of the women in those DOSE threads have held successful careers, they've raised children and grandchildren who still love and respect them and are involved in their lives, they have good friends and they share a really nice fellowship here. What a crime. And it pisses me off when I see a bunch 50 something male losers, unsuccessful in life and family, making fun of them. That's my beef, DO. I know that you are not involved in that, but I'm sick of anti-social guys here who feel the need to insult the genuine admiration and affection these ladies feel for the President, not as a policy maker, but as a virtuous and honest family man. That's petty b.s.

The Government should serve and be distrusted by the people, not the other way around.Great line! I nominate it for quote of the day.

Exactly which is why a permanent informant system is just the setup for a stasi/gestapo/cheka system and not about security.

Shouldn't you be on a conjugal visit with Frank Zito?
To: weikel
If you have to ask that, you don't have a clue.
