I believe with all my heart, one reason why our country has stayed strong and lasted so long is because we are allowed to own guns. No psychopathic, potential dictator would dare to cross us, as long as we are armed.
Guns don't cause crime. When I was growing up, all the boys at school had guns in their pickup trucks. We would go out and shoot after school. No kid ever shot up our school. No one was ever shot in our small town. My grandpa had a cabinet full of guns he used for hunting and for protecting his pecan farm.....nothing ever happened. He never went crazy and shot my grandmother or robbed a bank. My dad had guns and none of us were ever curious about them, went to the bedroom, pointed the gun at our face and accidently pulled the trigger. We were taught gun safety at an early age, even though we weren't using the guns or touching them. It was just basic common knowledge growing up in Texas, you don't point a gun at anyone or yourself, EVER.....even a toy gun. That's just the way we were brought up.

My brother took me shooting from 8yrs old and up and it taught me responsibility and the connection between action and consequences...Short of parachuting, I know of no other more concrete example to engender the command "PAY ATTENTION or you could DIE...RIGHT NOW" with the proper authenticity...Today's youth seem to think they are protected from the laws of physics...its a Dangerous Delusion...I hope they survive to learn that pain hurts and poor decisions can have consequences that can outlive the actor...

Spookie, THIS is why we are free--because NO dictator cares to take on a country full of armed citizens. It would be about two short steps, a hop, skip and a jump to utter tyrrany in the US if the liberals succeed in disarming the citizens. Beware.
