It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Freepers who post here, feel it too. It has been so dear how the Freepers kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place that had a huge living room for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.
saying that the Canteen is like home to them for the first time since they served.
a respite from our busy and sometimes troubling world. Make yourself at home. ..............................................................................................................................................................................

LOL! It just occurred to me that this presumes one's morals are of high standard. Bill Clinton could have made such a statement and held to it -- considering the fact he apparently has no morals. LOL again.
I had no brothers, so learned early to be versatile - helped my Dad survey our acreage property lines when I was 11 (with me on the transit and he on the rod), took over the yard chores then, at the same time as I began sewing my own clothes and embroidering and playing the piano and doing the whole crossword puzzle in the Miami Herald.
Later took mechanical drawing in high school, the first girl to do so in an old era..:)))
True American Woman - breaking the mold after Rosie the Riveter paved the way!
Like you, Snow Bunny, I love to browse in Home Depot and Lowe's, and get timbers to build new flower beds, and plan and help build decks, etc.
I even replaced the sliding glass doors to the deck in North Carolina, altering the opening to fit the different size.
Heck - I helped finish remodeling a three-bedoom house in Alaska for extra money to keep from being hungry, living on inadequate military pay, and painted the whole interior with no heating system in an overcoat in 35 degree temperatures.
There is no loss of femininity in having and developing skills and doing what needs to be done.
It...um...pays to be (no chortles and guffaws here, Bad Boyz!) 'well-rounded'!!!
LOLOL
I'll hold the vantage point here in the South, thanks - had my fill of cold in northern climes - New York and Ohio, and points (VA; NC) in between here and those; and South Dakota and Fairbanks, Alaska - and this Florida girl prefers to stay thawed out in South Carolina.
We actually have been cooler than many areas of the nation this summer, seldom and barely breaking 90 - humidity not bad yet.
Love your daily reports on America's light, letting the troops know America is awake and here thinking of them,
and the nation is ALIVE AND WELL THANKS TO THEM.
Just belt out the theme, Valin!!
Those present here will provide such lousy backup singing, no one will ever know if you find, it, lose it - or sing it off key..:)))
Snow Bunny, I have said it before, and will say it again, this site is a work of art and deserving of an award. The daily themes are incredible. The wonderful patriotic messages are heartwarming, encouraging, and educational. The message is loud and clear...."God Bless America and All Who Serve to Make her Strong and Free!"
Oh, what a Godsend this website would have been during our previous wars. I can only imagine what this would have meant to our service people in the Vietnam and Koren Wars, when even a small gesture of patriotism and support from the civilian sector would have been so very encouraging and appreciated.
I know that you did your part during the Vietnam years to lift our soldier's spirits and you are still continuing to do so with this Freeper USO Canteen. THANK YOU, SNOWBUNNY!!!!!!!!!! And thank you to all who contribute to make this the best Canteen in the world!!!! ..... and, no doubt, the most well-attended!
Lived in North Carolina 20 years and loved the mountains, both the Blue Ridge ones there and in the Smokies where I trekked back and forth to and from Ohio.
You always capture things that tell long tales - more than a mere glimpse.
Thanks ~ ~ ~
Attendance at the Friday and Saturday events will be the PRIVILEGE of those attending to show our support of the troops and of AMERICA!!
Bless you and Mama_Bear and the other faithfuls.....
