A Bush Hater's Poll
Jim Robinson

Posted on 07/10/2002 11:27:06 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

This is an unofficial quick and dirty presidential poll. Apparently, there is a good sized contingent on Free Republic that believes that President Bush is:

  1. Not conservative enough
  2. Not pro-life
  3. Is a gun-grabber
  4. Is a federal power-grabber
  5. Will appoint liberal judges
  6. Is a globalist
  7. Is in it just for oil
  8. Is too soft on immigration
  9. Is too soft (or too hard) on Israel
  10. Is a crook
  11. All of the above
  12. None of the above
  13. Other (you name it)

Please list the numbers that best match the reasons you don't like Bush (or state other reasons if not on the list) and state whether you believe that President Bush should be defeated even if it means installing a Democrat in the Whitehouse.

Conversely, if you believe President Bush should be re-elected, please state why.

Please state who you would like to see win the Presidency in 2004 and whether or not you believe he/she has a chance of winning.

Thanks,
Jim

And voting for 3rd party candidates in whom you know don't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning won't "move the country right," either.

Exactly.

I've known other people who became pro-life because of their guilt feelings after having had an abortion.

I'm sure that a great number of the pro-choice crowd are adamant about their right to determine their babies death since they themselves have had abortions and can not stand to face the truth that they murdered their son or daughter. They then have to defend pro-choice or what does that make them?

I do believe Allan Keyes and Ron Paul will do what they say.

They might try. Ron Paul at least has a voting record, so we know what he tries to do.

Alan Keyes has never been elected to any office, so we know what he says, we don't know what he would do. He'd have to deal with Congress, and he wouldn't be able to get any laws passed or repealed without their cooperation.

Problem is, first he'd have to get elected, and a lot of people just flat don't like him. I voted for him in the 1996 and 2000 primaries, but my husband wouldn't consider it. Said Keyes was an arrogant S.O.B. and was all talk. I still agree with many things Keyes says, but I've since decided my husband might have a point.

But in actuality they're exposing the dark world they live in where reality and common sense is a rare commodity

I've seen very few actually even suggest an alternative to Bush. Most of the suggested alternatives ran in 2000 and received very few votes, so they're not viable alternatives.

I guess I'm sort of a minority; Bush wasn't even one of my top 5 choices in the primary (didn't think he was conservative enough) but he's done a lot better than I expected. Not perfect, no, but better than I expected.

I also think he will appoint conservative judges (if he can get them approved by the Senate) and I think that will help considerably.

When I voted for George W. Bush I was well aware of his moderate views and promises because I paid attention to his campaign, Stevie Wonder could see that GWB was no right wing conservative and I held no illusions that he was suddenly going to transform into a right wing conservative after he was sworn in and become the strict Constitutional Conservative we can only dream of.

Unfortunately reality smacks us in the face and even the brain dead understands you can't get everything you want in this world. These so called "true Conservatives" here are really just inbreaded cave dwellers who don't have a grasp on reality or life for that matter. The third party candidates they worship will NEVER get elected, That's not saying they're not good people, it's just the simple fact that they will never be elected. This holds true for extreme left wing liberal. It's simply never going to happen in this period in our history.

Back to the President. I voted for him and was not expecting him to be Reagan like, especially after the election we had to suffer through. But President Bush has impressed me in far more ways than he has disappointed me and it's my opinion that he has a very good chance of going down as one of the best Presidents this country has ever been blessed with.

Not a single one of these Bush bashing nimrods will change my mind, onlt the actions of George W. Bush can do that and so far he has surpassed my expectations and I thank God we have him as our President in these difficult times.

Single issue voting by "conservatives" will doom the conservative movement. To have any hope of effectively moving your agenda forward, you must pick a party and vote a straigth ticket. Split government is a government of bad compromises all around.

That being said, there are only two viable parties that can get anything done. Republican and Democrat. Pick one. if you don't like some of the policies of the party that most closely mirrors your values, try to persuade people to your point of view. If you fail, that is not a good enough excuse to abandon a party that has the ability to move the country in the direction that most closely approximates your desired destination.

I am a Republican. I do not like all of the party platforms. But I like them a lot better than what the Dems offer. So I vote Republican. I vote a straight party ticket. A Republican President without a Republican house and senate to back him (and vice-versa), will not take the country anywhere near where I want it to go.

1,4,6,8, and he wants to give money to people based upon their race (i.e home loan subsidies to "blacks and hispanics"). So, I say he's also a racist.

Problem is if both parties are very far away from your views you are screwed. I'm not a single issue guy Bush has done a lot of things this year which piss me off. My criticism of him is basically that of Rush.

A very well put, reasonable post! All this back biting around here only plays into the hands of the Liberals who love to see conservatives divided. We must reverse the strangle hold liberals have on this country and that means VOTING AGAINST DEMOCRATS. There simply no other way to change the direction we have been heading since the Hippie movement of the sixties if we don't vote out the democrats.

A straight party ticket that can beat the democrats is the only way to win this country back. After we get it back and prove we can navigate this country through the challenges we face, we will have much more of a chance to nominate and vote in a Constitutional Conservative President who understands we are a diverse nation that needs to be convinced our message is the best for our survival. A whole bunch of work on the grass root level needs to be done before we ever see this happen. If we repeat the mistake we made in 1992 by voting in protest, we will hand the keys to the city right back to the liberals

The whole 'single issue' thing is a a straw man argument.

The vast majority of principled pro-life folks care about a broad range of issues...constitutional adherence, national defense, taxation, regulation, education, foreign affairs...to name but a few. I don't think I've ever met this mythical 'single-issue' person anywhere.

But the sacred nature of innocent human life is critically important and central. That's why the attack on 9-11 is such an atrocity, and is perceived as such...it was a murderously evil attack on noncombatant innocent men, women and children...the lawless and wicked taking of innocent human life.

I am always instantly suspicious of the motives of those who attempt to use the 'single-issue' smear on pro-life people.

Why are you doing this? Do you support the killing of one and a half million babies every year in this country?

EV, EV, don't be so paranoid! There are at least NINE other "single issues" on JimRob's poll.
