A Few of FR's Finest.....Every Day.....7-11-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

ONE OF FREE REPUBLIC'S FINEST

Utah Girl

Utah Girl has been a member of Free Republic since 3/27/01. She has become well known to many of us in that relatively short time. While her "home thread" is America The Right Way, she also post articles and contributes to threads in both Late Breaking News and General Interest. She is well read and well informed and imparts much information to all threads she visits. She is a long time contributor to the Guild Thread and provided many recipes for the Guild Cookie Exchange Thread and the Guild Thanksgiving Recipes. Currrently, she has been posting to the Elizabeth Smart Kidnapping Daily Thread where she comments on the local coverage and perspective of the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart in Salt Lake City Utah last month.

She is In The Spotlight today, as One of Free Republic's Finest, in recognition of the Daily Threads she posted and hosted during the Olympic Winter Games held in Salt Lake City in February 2002. She was our gal on the scene in Utah for the entire Olympic Games as well as for the pre-game hoopla and celebrations including the carrying of the torch and the preparations Utah underwent for these games. Hundreds of us, maybe even thousands, contributed and lurked on these threads. It was enriching and enlightening and provided us a place to vent, if necessary, especially during the Figure Skating Events. Lots of great photographs too and lots of laughs. .

Thanks Utah Girl. You are well liked and respected and are One of Free Republic's Finest.

Poor Utah Girl....Now she has to explain why Utah is the Beehive State....lol.....Remember how much fun she had trying to explain to us all why Utah is the state that consumes the most jello, preferably green jello. I remember her sharing with us that she was taking a jello mold in the shape of Utah to one of the Olympic parties...And the jello pin was very sought after at the Games too.

Thanks for honoring Utah Girl today. I had alot fo fun on the Olympic threads with her and others this year. Her Olympic threads were some of the most active and popular threads running at that time and everyone was enjoying themselves so much. UG was faithfully here every day with at least one new Olympic thread. I was in awe of her devotion in bringing us all up to date on the local news in Utah at that time.

Love your wave.....All the ice skating threads were great...The pairs judging controversy and the ongoing discussion about Michele Kwan vs Sasha Cohen and then Sarah Hughes slipped in and won..And all those great photos especially of the weirdo ice dancer's costumes. ....Great threads, great fun....

Mark Steyn: Bush pulls it off again
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/714410/posts

Excerpt:

For Bush, it’s a win–win situation. If the Palestinians elect the Hamas crowd, he can say, ‘Fine, I respect your choice. Call me back when you decide to put self-government before self-detonation.’ If they opt for plausible state and municipal legislators, Bush will have re-established an important principle: that when the Americans sign on to nation-building they do so only to bring into being functioning democratic, civilised states — as they did with postwar Germany and Japan. Who’s to say it couldn’t work in Palestine? Not being a colonial power, the Americans don’t have that win-a-few-lose-a-few attitude — here a Canada, there a Zimbabwe — that the British have. So the Bush plan is perfect: heads we win, tails you lose. That’s also how some of these other international questions are being framed: heads, the International Criminal Court will be modified to our satisfaction; tails, we won’t have to do any more lousy UN peacekeeping.

The question Matthew Parris might like to ask as he weeds his borders is why could no European leader make a speech like that? How did it come about that the entire EU reflexively stuck with an aging terrorist who cancelled the last scheduled elections? Which bear is really the one with the little brain? The one who in under three weeks has changed the dynamic of the Palestinian question? Or the one whose gags are as stale as his world view?

Europeans expend an awful lot of energy explaining why nothing can change: it’s ‘absurdly ignorant’ even to suggest getting rid of Arafat; it’s preposterous to pursue ‘crackpot’ (John Simpson) plans for missile defence because it would ‘humiliate’ the Russians. But Bush went ahead, and the Russians are fine about it, and Yasser’s packing, and, behind the scenes, the Aussies and Canucks and not a few others are relieved that the unilateralist cowboy has killed Kyoto. Bush tosses a pebble in the water and the ripples spread across the lake; the EU drops a huge rock of conventional wisdom and it sinks without trace. I’ve said before that, if America is Coke, the world could use a Pepsi. If the EU doesn’t have the will to fulfil that role militarily, it could at least try to do it intellectually, with a bit of fresh creative thinking about some of these issues. But instead it clings to 1970s terrorists, 1970s missile treaties and 1970s environmental doom-mongering. Poor old Europe: never mind walking the walk, it can’t even talk the talk.

With the excitement of our upcoming Rally/Tailgate, the temperature in the Valley is starting to climb! (Cooling Monday to 105) Our military lives through adverse conditions everyday. Are we going to let a little warm weather deter us?

GOD Bless and Protect Our Military!!!

I knew I missed someone yesterday and it was you....Glad you have been restored to your proper place on the Ping List.

So glad you like this thread. Creating and posting the thread (my meagre one thread per week-less if I can get out of it, hee hee) is not the easiest thing I have ever done (I only took "Art" in school when it was required and at that only managed "C" grades-oh the embarassment - everyone got As and Bs in "Art"), but once it is posted and all you great folks show up to chat, well then it is really Fun....
