12:57PM Halliburton responds to Judicial Watch lawsuit (HAL) by Michael Baron Halliburton (HAL) is off 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $13.82, in midday action. The company is out with a press release responding to a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group. The suit alleges fraudulent accounting practices at Halliburton took place during the period when current vice president Dick Cheney served as its chairman and CEO. Halliburton called the claims in the suit, "untrue, unsupported, and unfounded." The company continued: "We are working diligently with the SEC to resolve its questions regarding the company's accounting procedures. Halliburton has always followed and will continue to follow guidelines established by the SEC and GAAP, General Accepted Accounting Principles."

I don't think it's grounded in anything either; that seems to be the problem, from all that I've read. Gerald Ford said high crimes were whatever the House said it was, but then they ended up deciding that some financial doings that Nixon was accused of -- what was it? -- didn't rise to high crimes.......but it WAS while he was running for his second term.......it may have been something concerning CREEP.

What is your problem? That I am quoting my knowledge from 2 semesters of Constitutional Law? I am not a lawyer and that is obvious, but I do understand the Impeachment process.

The Founding Fathers would right to not limit high crimes and misdemeanors to actions taken only while in current public office. The Founders were weary of tyrants and corrupt politicians. This is also the reason why a public official may be impeached for offenses deemed non-criminal.

I think the thing is like with Nixon......MOST people with that much evidence against them would resign. Like Nixon and Agnew did. I don't know where that is in the Constitution either.

I do not know; I just know he resigned and made a deal with the prosecutors. Perhaps if he hadn't resigned they would have tried to impeach him. Who knows. I thought they had enough to get Clinton.

I understand that an out of control Congress could do whatever it wanted to, but you just cannot be impeached for something that happened years before you were elected

I am not sure felons are eligible to run, but I could be wrong. If elected with voters aware of the felony, in practice, Congress would not act. If it was unknown, and heinous enough, they certainly should act. The health of the Republic might rest on it. Maybe I am being simply too practical here.
