Well my favorite part is the challenge to CEO's to explain their compensation and justify why it is good for the company and shareholders. I bet Eisner won't like that one much! HA!

I tuned to Rush for about 2 minutes and I could not believe what I was hearing-Rush freely admitted that he did not hear the whole speech,that he may have gotten the context and details wrong-but,that didn't stop him from trashing the speech!! Rush has made the left's parody of him,into a reality. I thought Bush's speech was very good, I liked the SWAT team idea,I enjoyed his barbs at the Clinton administration-couched in his usual bonhomie.Bush is like the sheriff who has to go from town to town, cleaning up the mess left by the Clinton gang.

You know, I don't care who doesn't like it. Eisner sprang to mind because he is a current CEO and his compensation is way out of line with Disney's performance, plus he gets a lot of other perks such as bodyguards.

I think it does no harm for all CEO's to justify their compensation to shareholders. Perhaps when they put it down in black and white, they might not be so prone to excessive compensation demands.

And I have no problem paying a CEO a bonus of immense proportions if he turns a company around and causes expansion. I just think that perhaps people like Lay, to use your example, should explain why they are deserving of their compensation.

Yes, it appears Rush took the sentence in question out of context. President Bushes speech coincided with Rushes live show, which probably made him miss the whole point.

Government responsibility.....? Have you TAKEN an economics course in a college lately??? They teach Social Capitalism there (that IS a term, BTW)

Do you propose that the federal government make the teaching of Socialist ideology in all public schools and institutions of higher learning illegal?? How does it enforce this? New agencies? More police??

The problem lies directly in the laps of University professors who teach budding young economists and business managers that the only way to make a profit is to raise prices to the highest level possible, based upon an estimate of the number of people who might possibly buy your product, divided by the current GPA estimate of their possible income. In this scenario, the customer is never right...the customer is nothing more than a number in theoretical model.

Government can't legislate that. Only WE, as members of the PTA's and any other parent's school associations, and as the parents who are payingthe tuition to the colleges where our kids LEARN this claptrap can help...and we can help by teaching our kids the value of a buck early in life and LEEP TEACHING them that if the lemonade stand down the street sells their product at .50 cents a glass and has a lot of customers, YOU sell it at .25 cents a glass and made darned sure you have a better product. TURNOVER is the key to profit.

Yep, rohry is right. It is CitiGroup. And yes CitiGroup is in the news a lot due to their exposure with a lot of these now defamed companies, i.e, Enron. As I recall, Rubin phoned Treasury to see if they couldn't do something so Enron's credit rating wouldn't fall. Of course they said no, the rating fell, and the rest is history.

Just how do you propose to "make" Americans have moral responsibility? The world is waiting to hear this.

I guess with your view that government do nothing - we just sit around and hope those crooks will decide to let us have some of our funds for our retirement intact.

This is the whole problem with you no government people - you depend on the fact that everyone is going to do the right honorable thing and no protection for innocents will be needed. If it is needed - you feel the innocent should just pull out their gun and take care of the problem.

That works find in an old west town - but in a country it is a little hard for the innocent to go to corporate headquarters and call out the CEO for a duel.
