MURDOCH SCRIBE FIGHTS BACK

Bush-bashing leads inevitably to Dubya trouble

Bruce Wilson
July 6, 2002, Saturday
Courier Mail

ONE week ago I wrote a piece that said that much of the world was getting to terms with the fact that President George W. Bush is a fraudulently elected nitwit.

You always expect some kind of reaction from statements like that. On Monday morning, I opened my e-mail, something I always consider a minor triumph. There are usually a handful of them, politely derisory ones from editors, merchants offering me wine deals, troubled people from the travel pages wondering if I ever would get to write that piece about Damascus.

This time the inbox showed 674. By the end of the week there were more than 1000.

A handful were from Australia and the world. All the rest were from the US and for days they handed it to me as if I were the greatest threat to democracy since Joe Stalin.

The hatred and invective was quite staggering.

Then I found out what had happened. I had been picked up by the Drudge Report, the website started by a right-wing zealot called Matt Drudge.

The report ran the column and then Drudge read selected bits of it on his US national radio program, urging listeners not to let me get away with it.

Well, whee-hoo, as they say down on the ranch.

Drudge obviously aims at a lowest common denominator, since most of my electronic correspondents failed to catch on that I was an Australian. They saw the London dateline, and said: "OK, let's trash this limey."

Mainly I got it for being a limp-wristed nancy-boy (Bruce is thought to be a poofie name in the rednecked areas of America) whose nation (Britain) was twice saved by ever-brave American military might and GI know-how.

You simply don't have time to read 1000 e-mails and they clog up the memory. I took them randomly while wiping them out, reading about one in 20, and then replying if the sender was making some kind of a point or other, saying I was Australian, not British, and used to work in the US and some of my best friends were Republicans. Then I detected the pattern. It was clear that a network existed to organise the outraged responses.

They ran on two levels: "Come to Texas . . . and we'll show ya." And, "We saved your asses and if you keep this stuff up we won't do it again."

Some were so offensive I replied in kind. Some I tried to tell that the US came very late into World War II and Britain already had fought its two major battles without them.

Then, as the week went on, there came a slow and then increasing inbox of what might be described as the still, small voice of reason.

"Thanks. Nobody's saying this stuff often enough here," was the general theme. September 11 had created a president wearing false clothes, said one. But nobody would say so. Or if they did, not loud enough.

About 150 Americans e-mailed me -- from Seattle and Denver and Tacoma and New York and Smallsville, Ohio -- asking me not to pay attention to Matt Drudge, or the organised Right, and to keep at it.

I will.

I assume this nitwit hasn't gotten any smarter in the past week, so I didn't bother to read any further.

"a fraudulently elected nitwit."
Just like FDR and JFK. Won by Electoral College and not popular votes.

I'm not much in favor of Bush over the last few months. His leftward slide has deeply troubled me.

That said, this 'author' isn't fit to pick the corn out of Bush's bowel movements.

This schmuck has seen his fifteen minutes of fame. Not it's time to let him vanish back into the obscurity of the outback, there to have his bowels eaten by dingoes.

Bruce:

1. If the poof fits, go ahead and prance around in it. (Methinks thou doth protest too much on that point...a bit insecure, perhaps? Liberal men who claim to be straight simply haven't come out yet. A man who is liberal is by definition gay. At least the drag queens and pedophiles have the courage to ADMIT they're gay.)

2. Most importantly, whether Britain OR Australia---regardless: where do you think AUSTRALIA would be were it not for U.S. wars in Asia? You'd be typing in Japanese, Korean or Mandarin, in a place known as South South China.

Sounds like Brucie got a little too much to drink or smoke at the recent gay pride parades.

Yah. Never mind the fact that Britain pleaded for our resources, arms, and personnel on both occasions.
Had it not been for America's concerted efforts with the British to supply Britain, Hitler might have eventually succeded in bringing Britain to heel.

"Thanks. Nobody's saying this stuff often enough here," was the general theme. September 11 had created a president wearing false clothes, said one. But nobody would say so. Or if they did, not loud enough.

That's quite a statement considering that the alternative was counterfeit to the core in any situation.

Rest assured. Had we not entered the war, the UK would be part of Germany and Australia part of Japan. Besides by the time we "entered" the war, we had built at least half of the RAF's aircraft, and had supplied most of the fuel and ammo the Bits had. I know my fellow Americans, we would do it again in a heartbeat.

He began his article with name calling. After all, that tactic worked for him on the playground when he was 6, why get rid of a time tested way to attack your opponent?

I wrote to this guy after reading the original article and pointed out that name calling is a sign of immaturity or lack of proper brain function.
His second article leaves us wondering which problem he suffers from.

I didn't waste my time last week on this bilgewater. But I'm tired of these self-appointed gits who insist that Bush somehow "fraudulently" won the election. We elect through the Electoral College. Bush received the majority of votes in the Electoral College, period.

The Florida fiasco was not President Bush's fault, and no matter how many times morons like this say it, the truth does not change. Listen carefully: BUSH. WON. THE. ELECTION. IT'S. OVER. IT'S. BEEN. OVER. FOR. NEARLY. TWO. YEARS. GET. OVER. IT.

Whether you think the man is a 'nitwit' or not is your business. I happen to think the former occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania is a rapist who got away with his crime. Next...

Welcome to the media of the future.

You are welcome to think what you want. You are welcome to write what you want. No one is stopping you. But when you get under the skin of those that know how to use the medium, don't be surprised if they use it to let you know that they think you are full of used food.

You obviously weren't prepared for the resources of those of us who think for ourselves, as opposed to the folk that you are used to dealing with. You know...the ones who you tell what to think...

When it happens again, don't say you weren't warned.

I won't slight any allied forces during WWII. I would think i'd be in bad taste to insult a particular president or prime minister in print, and then question that country's elections.

It looks like Brucy payed enough "attention" to make him(?) feel the need to write this tripe.

Translation: what took you so long? You're not only expected to bail other nations out of their self-created messes, but you'd better be snappy about it.

What a jerk.

I personlly think Winston Churchill was one of the greatest leaders of the last century. Who was the Australian Prime Minister during WWII? Was there such at that time? Or, was Australia a colony then?

If Gore had acted honorably instead of casting doubt on the legitimacy of the 2000 election, we probably wouldn't be suffering such commentary from abroad.

If pigs had wings ...
