Tribute To HEROES

Tribute to Vietnam Veterans....Please click on picture

The great intangible of America's wars beyond logistics, beyond strategy, beyond wonder weapons and Generals, is the spiritual force of its fighting men and women - and that is the force that the USO so serves.

This FRiday is special because you are. Thanks for your 20years service to the USAF and the Nation. Jen and I are USAF(Ret) also. Since I retired from Offutt after being there only 80-81, you may have still been there.

Misty Maine is thickly FRoggy.Yesterday the FRog rolled in over the beach clam, lobstah and corn bake. We had to eat everything else up here on the deck cause the lobstah was slow gettin red. Oe visiting liberal played the violin for us so he got lots of beer. Other grandpa took my grandboys and our 10 yr old Swedish cousin out in my rowboat and caught pollik(sp?). I tore open my leg haulin wood to the beach and slashed my pinky scooping up clams. Took cousins to the Machias parade which was led by CAP honor guards.

Got am email yesterday that I would like to share with all of you:

From Sherrod Fielden, "I Saw the Flag Today" was written sometime ago out of concern for, what seemed to him, lack of recognition and appreciation by many for the sacrifices that have been necessary and that enable us to enjoy our freedoms in this great land. It was featured as a "Guest Column" on July 4, 1996 in the Waco Tribune-Herald."

I SAW THE FLAG TODAY

By Sherrod L. Fielden

I was driving down the street today;

at the courthouse, I saw the flag on display.

It was moving gently in the wind,

as it's done again and again.

I've seen it so often I tend to forget

there's something special about why it's there.

It's our country's history lesson --

not just cloth flapping in the air.

With independence a concept we

knew would be costly to be free,

we never the less set our course

for freedom for you and me.

We believed the struggle was worth the cost,

the price to be paid with blood and tears.

So our flag was born to bind us tight,

to bolster our courage and overcome our fears.

It was the symbol that we needed

to meld the thirteen into one.

They stuck like glue and me and you

enjoy the freedoms that they won.

We've flown it proudly through the years.

It's heard lots of laughter and seen a river of tears.

Focus and direction was its greatest worth,

but we nearly ripped it apart with North against South.

We survived it somehow and started healing

wounds that cut deep through our soul.

Our Union revived, our spirit renewed

under one flag flying proud and bold.

Through the years it's served us well

in conflicts all over the earth.

Our troops were true to the Red, White and Blue,

and we backed them for all that they're worth.

Morning, Snobie, dear, and thanks for this nice profile. MM7, you are GREAT. Thanks for your service! Hubby was trained at Lackland AFB, then sent to FBX, but this was all at the end of the Korean War, so there wouldn't have been much chance of you running into each other (darn!). I know you would have hit it off from the very first. Take care, and thanks again for your service to MY freedom. (((MM7)))

When I was in the Army we had a saying,

"Anything over 20 makes you a Lifer".

You did 20 and 12 so:

Thank you Militiaman7 for your lifetime of service to our country.

I'm so happy to meet you. What an exciting life you have led. I'm glad to read about your life and I thank you for your service to our country. Did you enjoy Turkey? I lived there also back in the late 80's. Do you remember any Turkish?

I can't remember who all is here right now, so if I din't ping you...apologies.

I'm posting real quick because my sister is here and we are going shopping for antique jewelry (more like, SHE is). LOL

Linda, my sister hasn't shown any interest in this thread. I showed her what you did the other day and let her see the ordnance thread. She was very impressed with this place and loved what you put up about the JFK the other day. She said one of the planes was in her husbands squadron and the pilot could very well have been him flying. She was looking at all the pictures saying, "I know this and I know that or this could be so-in-so's plane". LOL I was surprised by her reaction. So thank you for doing that for her.

We all went to a free Clint Black concert last night alone with our crazy neighbors. It was basically a redneck festival. It was hysterical. People watching is always the most fun. Oh, and it poured down rain on us for awhile. It was fun standing out in the rain. Everyone was trying to save their beer from getting too watered down.

The fireworks were amazing. They had patriotic music, rock and country music about America and President Bush's voice from different speeches he has given since we were attacked last year. It was great. I liked hearing my Presidents voice the best.

Hope you all have a good day. I'll be back later maybe
