LOS ANGELES (AP) - A woman passenger allegedly tried to enter the cockpit of a Southwest Airlines jet in flight Monday but she was seized and turned over to local authorities for a mental evaluation, the FBI said.
Sacramento-bound Flight 2060 turned around shortly after a 10:30 a.m. takoff from Los Angeles International Airport because a woman "began interfering with the flight crew," which is a federal violation, said Laura Bosley, an FBI spokeswoman.

PMS? Or lead deficiency?
To: vannrox
She's obviously CRAZY. In the post 9-11 atmosphere, anyone stupid enough to try this stunt deserves any "restraint" the passengers give her!!

Hmmm. I know a woman who is a private pilot. Or she said she was. Or she said she was going to be. Or something like that.

I wonder if SouthWest has the cockpit door strengthening apparatus installed yet?

If she is mentally ill, she deserved to be restrained, and nothing more. Beating her senseless would accomplish nothing, and could not be morally justified.
Terrorists are another matter entirely...

I'm with you. This woman did not just become "mentally-ill" the minute after boarding the plane. If she was in this advanced stage of bizarre behavior, why was she on the plane alone in the first place? Does she have no family who know of her condition? No friends? No neighbors? No personal doctor? No shrink?
However, if I were on that aircraft, I wouldn't have paused to speculate on my own questions.

If someone is mentally ill, it's generally pretty obvious, particularly if their behavior is that aberrant.
Once you have neutralized the threat, and restrained the individual you have no right to continue beating her.
Personally, I'm not much on people who hit women, or someone who is restrained or defenseless. If I were on the plane, and you continued to assault that person, I would turn my attention to you, and you'd soon be wearing restraints and sitting right beside her.
On the other hand, if it were a bunch of raghead terrorists, I'd make an exception, and would join you in beating them bloody and senseless.

My husband thinks his Porsche is a low flying aircraft. Does that count?

Sort of!

"She would have needed severe facial reconstruction."
And you would pay for it -- and then some -- from a jail cell. A belt around the throat of a mentally disturbed woman who otherwise certainly would have stormed the cockpit and crashed the plane, indeed. We really have become a nation of hard-ass heroes..............

Ditto your reply. Perhaps our friend does not understand the concepts of "continuum of force," "excessive force," and ""aggravated assault".....

I don't think your fellow passangers would allow you to carry out such an over-reaction. I for one would not.
