A teenage girl was gang-raped in central Pakistan last month as "punishment" meted out by a tribal jury for her brother's alleged affair with a woman of a higher tribe, police said.
A Panchayat, or tribal jury, ordered four men, including one of the jurists, to rape the 18-year-old girl on June 22 in the village of Meerwala.
Meerwala lies 610 kilometres south-west of the capital Islamabad.
District police chief Malik Saeed Awan said authorities were informed of the publicly-ordered gang-rape several days after the incident.
He said four men took turns to sexually assault the girl inside a room. She was then ordered to return home naked before 1,000 onlookers.
The rape was to avenge the "insult" caused to a family of the Mastoi tribe by the girl's brother's alleged "illicit affair" with a woman of a higher social standing.
The girl and her brother were from the lower Gujjar tribe.
The Panchayat had threatened that all women in the accused's family would be raped unless the 18-year-old submitted herself to the public gang rape.
Awan said police were taking action against members of the Panchayat.
Lawyers visiting the tribal area on Sunday urged the authorities to prosecute the rapists and the jury.
We shouldn't let that stop the bigots from cursing at and condemning the Sikhs, since they wear turbans, too.
Until very recently the majority of the world's peoples paid scant little attention to the practices and primitivism of Muslim cultures. We are only learning about it because after 9/11 it has become very relevant to focus on these cretins. In addition the presence of Western media in the area as a result of our "police" action in Afghanistan brings to light the nature of these tribal societies. There is no getting away from the fact that most of the world is indeed primitive on a level with cro magnon man.
Actually we don't know yet if it's the religion or some tribal law. If this happened in a Christian country, there would be some kind of punishment for the tribal leaders, we'll see what happens to them since it's a Muslim country instead.

We had no problem with Mohammed taking advantage of this privilege as he married 14 wives for himself and several slave girls from the booty he collected as a result of his victorious battles, we really never knew how many wives he had and that question was always a debatable issue to us, one of these wives was taken from his own adopted son 'Zaid', as Allah declared that she was given to the prophet, others were Jewish captives forced into slavery after Mohammed beheaded their husbands and families.

Nobody's posted any evidence of this. So far, what we have is one smallish village. Not a whole "area of the world."
It will be interesting to see if anybody over there attempts to defend these actions.
Bedding with a 9-year old would be an endorsement of "statutory rape", unless you think she didn't do enough to resist.

Saint Paul once had journeyed into what is now Arabia, to bring the Good News of Christianity to the inhabitants there. But he wasn't successful.
It was as though God had reserved the area for a later religion, based on monotheism and pure desert morality, which would later rejuvenate Christianity when it sank into moral decline.
Still, this event IF TRUE is appalling beyond words.

Reading about the Gajjar people on the net, it appears they are extremely poor, extremely backward and extremely ignorant. They are nomadic, and travel the upland forests in the area of Uttar Pradesh in northern India.
I doubt they live any differently now than they did with the Mughals conquered them back in the 800s. This is complete and utter barbaric ignorance. They doubtless have some tribal tradition that holds this is perfectly okay to do.
Interesting, though, that I could find absolutely NOTHING on the "Mastoi" tribe, which is according to this account a "higher caste" trribe than the Gajjar.
