Reading about the Gajjar people on the net, it appears they are extremely poor, extremely backward and extremely ignorant. They are nomadic, and travel the upland forests in the area of Uttar Pradesh in northern India.
I doubt they live any differently now than they did with the Mughals conquered them back in the 800s. This is complete and utter barbaric ignorance. They doubtless have some tribal tradition that holds this is perfectly okay to do.
Interesting, though, that I could find absolutely NOTHING on the "Mastoi" tribe, which is according to this account a "higher caste" trribe than the Gajjar.
