FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute
and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new
word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

FreeRepublic Memorial Wall

These are only five of the FRiends who are no longer with us, but they are the only photos I had and the most recent. BCM and BKO, among the casualties of September 11th; Chief Negotiator, a tragic accident just weeks later; 1John, who is pictured in the very first veteran's group above; and CommiesOut, who passed away just last month.

I remember also BC Johnson, EdLinn, RR, OldAtlanta, heavyd, CaseyJay.....familiar names I used to see often on many threads. There are other names on the Memorial Wall some of you may remember: LoveUSA's father, Michael A. Marhevka; laissezfirearm, and JMIRACLE.

This weekend's thread is dedicated to the memory of these dear friends. I hope you will take a few minutes and visit the Memorial Wall and read some of the tributes that are linked to each name. The Wall is a beautiful tribute, created and maintained by Mr_Magoo, "for all of those whose voices have been silenced."

"Rest in Peace, Dear Friends, we will carry the Torch of Freedom in Your Memory."

At the outbreak of the first World War the American Air Force consisted of 50 men.

It was the Frisbie Pie Company of Bridgeport, CT., whose name (and lightweight pie tins) gave birth to the modern Frisbee.

Your body carries five liters of blood. It contains 35 million red cells which change every four months - that's 105 million red cells in a year. You have one white blood cell for every 6000 red ones, and these live for between nine days and ten years, according to their function.

Your heart beats 80 times a minute when it's resting, pumping five liters of blood around your body. In a year, it beats at least 42 million times and pumps enough blood to fill several swimming pools.

In Calama, a town in the Atacama Desert in Chile, it has never rained.

While the spoon dates back some 20,000 years, the fork wasn't invented until the 11th century and wasn't accepted until the 18th century. For centuries the clergy condemned the use of the fork outright. It was argued that only human fingers, created by God, were worthy to touch God's bounty. Also, use of the fork, especially by a man, was considered effeminate. Finally, in the 18th century, the aristocratic class started eating with forks on separate place settings to distinguish themselves from the lower classes, who would still share bowls and glasses.

Totally Twisted Proverbs

A 4th grade teacher collected well known proverbs. She gave each child in the class the first half of the proverb, and asked them to come up with the rest. Here is what they came up with:
