......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

RINTENSE

(aka Republican Warrior Princess)

Rintense has been posting a Daily Thread - "A Day in the Life of President Bush" - since shortly after the Inauguration last year. This thread enjoyed almost instantaneous success and has affectionately been dubbed "The Dose".

The Dose begins with a summary of the President's Day, followed by a quote of the day and then photos taken of the President that day. Rintense downloads these photos (mostly from Yahoo and the WH Website) and posts them for all of us to see. She also provides comments along the way and replies to posters. The thread is informative, educational, humorous and poignant. It is posted in the early evening and many of us cannot retire for the night till we have had our Daily Dose of W.

The School Bus Driver Story Editor:

It's been many years since I have had to stand on the end of Pusheck
Road in Bellwood, a suburb of Chicago, waiting for the school bus, and
yet I remember one special day as though it were yesterday.

It was the Spring of 1963, and I was attending second grade at St.
Simeon's Elementary School. Every morning my mom would pack up a bagged
lunch for me, usually a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with an apple
for dessert.

On this particular day when I reached the corner, I set my lunch down
on the sidewalk in order to shift my school books to a more comfortable
position in my arms (these were pre-backpack times!) By the time the
school bus lurched to a halt before me, I had forgotten all about my
lunch and stepped aboard, leaving my brown bag behind.

By the time I realized my lunch was missing, we were already pulling
in to the school parking lot. I started to cry. The bus driver, whose
name I have since forgotten, asked me, "What's wrong?"

I spilled my story about having left my lunch back at the bus stop.
He patted me on the shoulder and said, "Don't you worry about a thing."
I wiped my tears with the back of my hand, and looked at him doubtfully.
After all, what could he do? The school bell started to jangle and I
hurried on to class.

I was involved in coloring in an outline of Lincoln's head -- bright
green -- when the school secretary arrived at the door of our classroom.
She handed the teacher something in a small brown paper sack.

After the secretary departed, the teacher walked over to me carrying
the sack. With a note of surprise, she said, "This is for you from the
bus driver!" It was not the same bag my mother had sent me off to school
with. It was just about time for lunch, and I could not wait to look
inside.

To this day, I still remember the wonders that lay inside that
special package: a deviled ham salad sandwich, an orange, and two
chocolate chip cookies. At the time, I didn't put two and two together,
but later I realized the driver had given me his own lunch. He had seen
the angst of a little girl in a plaid uniform, and reacted to save her.
He had selflessly shared his affection for deviled ham! For 40 years I
have been grateful for his kindness.

I like the songs with words on Real Player too. I just don't know how to get that pause (buffering) out of it.
I like to think that one day I'll be able to play the same quality of music here that I hear on my CD's. One can dream can't they? :)

I know what you mean about the buffering, and there may be some way to set your preferences, but heck if I know how! Windows Media Player does the same thing. (I prefer Media Player to Real Player actually) And then I have AOL Media Player that pops up and plays some of this stuff - the mp3's I think. :)
