Southwest Airlines will start charging larger passengers for two seats on its 2,800 daily flights starting June 26.
The airline, which operates out of 58 U.S. cities and is the largest carrier at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, will begin charging "persons of size" for two seats if they think they may not fit comfortably in one.

I was serious, but even I (and my wife) do find it amusing.
Maybe the airlines should put a lone airplane seat by the gate to check each passenger for 'person-of-size' status. It could be right next to the box that checks the carry-on luggage size.
Advise on how to transport my own personal "Minnesota Manate" to Cozumel next year? ***
It's fun *picking on fat people*? Transporting your own personal Manate?
Pure cruelty.
Funny, that is just what Denny's thought.......
Unless I hop between small towns in Mexico, I simply could not find a route within the fuel limits of that aircraft.
After seeing this Southwest airline article, I told my wife that I would fly us next time. Cool idea, until I actually attempted to make a flight plan.
So, until someone comes up with a better plan, some airline will be stuck with my "Minnesota Manatee" wedged between two skinny people.
No, punishing a person for being overweight enough to require two seats is extreme.
If some seriously obese person wants a wider seat without purchasing two, he or she can always fly first or business class. Plus, the food's better up there!
One of the most annoying aspects of air travel is that I ALWAYS get wedged between the two largest manatees on the plane that day.
It's no punishment. They're taking a seat that could otherwise be sold to another passenger. Southwest should not have to lose that revenue. RE your earlier Denny's post: point well-taken. But what the government does and what it should morally do are two different things.
No, but self-pity is.

BRAVO! My thoughts exactly!
I've discovered that Denny's got a bad rap. They don't single out blacks for poor service -- they give it to everyone. Seriously, they have the slowest service of any restaurant around here.
Actually, my wife is very proud of being the "Minnesota Manatee" and had her scube wetsuit custom made to express that. Check out the national Scuba Radio, and she will be there most of the time
Unlike a Liberal, she is proud of who and what she is, and loves to tease the PC morons.
Even she thinks it is funny when 3 men must sit on the other side of the boat for ballance, when she attempts to climb the ladder after a good dive.
