Good Morning again. Does everyone in Vegas stay up all night?
I have moved to this thread all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to wish our Troops a Good Tuesday morning. God Bless and Protect each and every one of you. We appreciate you and we can't say it too many times.

I was in the 434th Army Band at Ft. Gordon, GA - MOS 02B20 - and the 266th Army Band in Saigon (1966) until transferring to the Army's navy - MOS 61B20.
The 266th was the only actual TO&E band in Viet Nam, the divisions had bands, but they were "other duties as assigned" most that I encountered were mortar detachments assigned to division headquarters. When they weren't playing they were doing fire missions. The first ones I met showed up with their gun trucks and mobil mortars 81mm set up on 2 ½ trucks.

Good Morning everyone!!!! My oldest brother was in the Army Band back in the mid to late 60's. His band was first stationed at Fort Ord where he and a group formed a stage band. From there they were sent to Germany where they split off a Dixieland Band. Chip (my brother) played the clarinet, and man could he make that thing sing!!! One of the other members in the band was a now Soap Opera star John McCook. They toured Europe with thier dixieland band playing in Officers clubs and playing for troops for over two years. They would come back to the states every now and then and play on Bourbon Street with stars like Pete Fountain, Al Hurt and others. After he got out of the Army, saddly he put his Clarinet away and didn't pursue it any longer. He was my hero back then, and he would send me reeds and music (I played the clarinet too, but was no where near as talented as him!). I was a very sick little kid back then, and he would write me just about every day. We still have a very close relationship and talk on the phone at least once a week. I love my big brother!

Good morning from VA Beach!
Again we've got beautiful weather this week (now if it would just RAIN a little to cure us of the drought condidtions we're in...)
Should be hearing from the hubby sometime this week. Lucky snot has a port call in Port Canaveral FL of all places. *grumblegrumble* HOPEFULLY he'll be home in time for 4th of July weekend.
I'm off to corral a pair of wild kids now. Have a great day everyone!

Ms. Bunny,
As a former member of the U.S. Navy Steel Band (1975-77), Navy Showband South and the Commandants of Dixieland (1977-78), I thank you for putting the spotlight on military bands.

Good morning! When I was stationed in Hawaii from 1983-1987 I did community relations for Pacific Air Forces. I worked with the Navy band quite a bit and with the Air Force Band of the Pacific, which was based in Japan. Military bands do such important work in aiding troop morale, recruiting and public relations.
Salute to you! Thanks for coming to the Canteen today. Stick around and tell us some stories and share some pix if you want to. Jen
