Every individual who lives in or visits the nation's capital is now an enemy of the state. Or so it seems. How else to explain the vast network of closed-circuit cameras that are popping up all over town? If you think this is hyperbolic rhetoric

Pehaps this might have something to do with the fact that on September 11th 2001 Muslim terrorists hijacked aircraft full of people and flew them into buildings in NY and DC?
I am having a problem understanding the mentality of people in this nation. They obviously don't understand the magnitude of the event, and the extreme danger we are in. Perhaps they have seen too many violent movies. While you are watching it, it is exciting and you are all fired up in the audience rooting for the good guys. When it is over, you go home and all is well.
This war is not make believe, it is very real, and coming to a city near you. No tickets are necessary and the popcorn isn't $5 a bucket.

I'd feel a lot better about the USA turning into a surveillance society for the sake of the "War on Terrorism" if I knew that the watchers were watching primarily for our enemies: arab muslim men from 18 to 40, and not John Q Citizen.

I have yet to have anyone explain to me what good all the surveillance cameras would do in the event of more terrorist attacks. In fact, I have yet to have someone explain to me how surveillance cameras make us safer in any way. The only benefit I can see is allowing the crimes to be solved after the fact. Can you explain any other benefit?
In my mind, the loss of privacy FAR outweighs any possible benefit to being watched. I'd rather have my privacy and be responsible for my own safety.

IMHO They will sell the video's after the fact to one of those "amazing stupidity" shows..........if anyone is left alive to watch it......... It's all about money ya know.
