Should we have given any special attention in 1941 to male German "students" and "workers" in their twenties who slipped into the USA in the late 1930s?

Why would you ask a question like that? What does it have to do with this case? Where would you get the idea that I think we shouldn't give "special attention" to people who are in this country on visas from suspected terrorist countries? Talk about a leap!

Or should we have only investigated them after acts of sabotage and assasinations where there was direct "courtroom" proof of their guilt?

Are you reading the same thread as I am commenting on? I have addressed comments by people who think that a man who is accused of rape has no rights whatsoever because he is from a middle eastern country. I didn't write the constitution, it gives everyone who is accused certain rights. If you don't like it , then attack the founders, not me.

This guy isn't being held as a terrorist, he is being charged with rape. If he is found guilty, I would be in favor of the highest possible punishment.

If he turns out to be a terrorist as well, then treat him as you would any other foreigner who is suspected of that. As far as that goes, it wouldn't bother me one iota to revoke the visas of anyone or any group of people who are here only with our permission. But that isn't the topic of this thread, at least it didn't start out that way, and surely not when I made my comments regarding constitutional protections and the rule of law.

Thomas Jefferson has been all over FR today trying to insult and preach his message. His profile shows that he is mid 50ish and self educated. That says it all. He has been studing the constitution for the past 35 years, knows every sentence by heart and he wants the world to know that he knows the constitution.

He said he was bored with us and that he was leaving a few post back, but I guess he has no other life, so he stays and continue to pester like a gnat.

Mr. Jefferson, Sir, since you have such in depth knowledge of the Constitution and it's rights, and you seem to think that this man with a permanent work permit, not Naturalization Papers, has all the rights given under the Constitution to our Citizens, could you tell me where I may find that in the Constitution or it's Amendments? For the life of me I can't seem to recollect where such rights for foreign visitors is granted.

The Islamists and our corrupt, snowballing government are inadvertently (I hope) working together to violate our rights. I say "violated" because I believe rights are given by the Creator, and can't be "taken away."

But what does all that have to do with this case in Florida, directly? The privileges of citizens are different than the privileges of foreign visitors. At least, they're supposed to be. We have it backwards these days, though. Maussoui (sp?), the "20th hijacker," is a foreign national and gets a regular trial in court, and Jose Padilla, a US citizen (someone who probably shouldn't have gotten citizenship - if we had listened to one of the real Thomas Jefferson's warnings) is given a military tribunal. That's backwards. If we scrap what bit of the Constitution is still hanging by a thread, in order to "win the War on Terrorism," then we've lost it all.

But this Marco Island rapist should have been booted from our country a long time ago. There's a 12yr-old girl in FL who would be a lot better off today if he had been. One of the causes of 9/11 is the modern American belief that any culture is as good as any other culture. Thomas Jefferson knew that wasn't true, as did all his colleagues.

A lot of money could be made by someone buying up property cheap after the WTC attack, and selling later as the city rebuilds. I'd love to see their transactions immediately prior to, and since, 9-11. Remember, there was LOTS of short-selling of airline stocks at the time.
