Gosh, I sure hope they didn't arrest this guy too soon. Maybe they should have followed him for a while to see who would have associated with. You can't find nuke-material at a 7-11... I don't like this at all.

Some of the defendants in the terrorist trials in NYC have been black and Hispanic converts to Islam

I read that 1/3 of Muslims who live in this country are of arab descent, 1/3 are asian and one third black. A handful include those like Johnny Taliban.

I'm thinking Versed, or spiked drinks. If this guy is a fanatical Islamist, he doesn't touch booze. Nothin' in the Constitution prohibiting us from getting `em drunk, and loosening a bunch of inhibitions, IIRC.

Or maybe we told him that the "gentlemen from Mossad are here..." and he spilled his guts.

Good point. Let's fire Ashcroft and crew and put you in charge.

All right, let's not get our shorts in a bind here. All I'm saying is that, if I'm Bush/Ashcroft/Ridge/et. al., I might want to produce some "results" instead of becoming the boy who cries wolf every couple weeks.

Just track a known Al Qaeda member until he shows up in a crowded place with a briefcase. Arrest him, and take it from there. Or, if that's not possible, pick any Middle Eastern man with a briefcase.

Oh, but nothing remotely like that could ever happen in our great nation. Our leaders are much too trustworthy and honest to sacrifice the life of an innocent person (especially a foreigner).

"The only terrorists left to do any possible damage are super stupid ala Richard Reid the shoe bomber....and this brain surgeon."

I pray we are to be so fortunate, but I reckon the terrorists with the smarts are finding ways to stay off the radar. Eternal vigilance is our best defense against these cretins, be they "super stupid" or not.

So much for profiling "Arab looking" types... No. Still plenty effective.

More than nine out of ten terrorists are “Arab looking” young males.

We don’t need to ignore “the rule” to try to catch “the exception.”

Profiling "Arab looking types" simply means the smart and resourceful terrorists (in other words, the dangerous ones) will use people who don't fit the ethnic profile. It's not only wrong, it's dangerous.

The El Rukn-Libya link does ring a bell.

This is from Gospelcom.net--an El Rukn link via Louis Farrakahn & Libya:

Nation of Islam under the leadership of Louis Farrakhan. This is another black separatist sect with militant tendencies. Although he has softened his rhetoric in recent years, Farrakhan has prophesied a doomsday for white America, including the total destruction of the country, while also calling for the establishment of a separate black territory in the U.S.(19 ) He frequently makes anti-American statements in the media both in the U.S. and abroad, and has close ties to Libya and it's leader Qaddafi, a nation and leader known for supporting international acts of terrorism. He also has ties to El Rukn , a radical, black Muslim street gang in Chicago, which "reportedly offered to carry out terrorist operations in the United States on behalf of Libya in return for money."(20 )

You're not a libertarian by any chance are you?

No. I'm a strict Constitutional Fundamentalist (it says what it means, and means what it says).

The conspiracy nut in me wonders what's to keep Ridge & Company from staging something to justify their existence.

Just wondering, are you a Montana freeman? Worn out your copy of "Capricorn One" from overuse? Are they coming to take you away, hoho, haha, hehe?

Profiling by looks may not be the best idea. But not really sure the numbers work in favor of checking blonde blue-eyed Midwestern grannies. Think you'd get better use of the resources concentrating on those who fit the generic profile.

Al- Quaeda probably has a LOT of potential operatives still here. The common denominator: Islamicism - that's a "profile" that's being avoided for some odd reason.

Yes it is. For example-- y"-3y'-4y = 3exp(2t) + 2sin(t) - 8exp(t)cos(2t)

Actually, the coeffs are 1,-3 and -4. But, that doesn't have any tricks. Very straightforward. *Physicists*

He could easily pass for a middle easterner. imo.
Then so could tens of millions of other American citizens. Do we really want to "profile" Hispanics as potential Arabs? I'm sure the Democrats wouldn't have any comments about that [/SRC]

Her dad accompanied her to the screening table. He had a knapsack and other carryons. They told him to put it on the table for inspection. He said "it's her, not me" and they just concentrated on her. I asked her later how old she was, and she smiled and held up five fingers. Her mother reassured her that everything was o.k. and it just turned into an adventure for her.

I am surprised folks have not given the Arafat comment about big explosion more weight. Here we are at the 9 month anniversary and bad moon rising this evening and Tuesday evening. Arafat would definitely be in the know about any attack of a large magnitutude.

My thoughts exactly last night! I was thinking how what Arafat said would fit perfectly with his knowledge of a major explosion here, and in the past week or so, I've also noticed people on FR remarking on dates of June 10 and 11, not to mention the fact that Moslems like the number 9. Hmmmm....

re-read it. your the first person I have heard put the figurative spin on it. It seemed pretty transparent to me. Oh and if you consider paranoid my voicing concerns when a kingpin terrorist issues a proclamation that a catastrophic explosion was about to take place, one that would shake the world's foundations, then you and I simply disagree.

Washington DC according to all the reports.

So what's he doing in Chicago? It's a fur piece from Chicago to DC. I mean, he didn't have to land at Reagan, but he could've picked an airport on the East Coast, Philly, for example.

I also want to point out to all the people who have been profiling proponents that this is a perfect example of why profiling is not a solution.

Profiling is not “the solution,” but it can be a major and effective component of “the solution”.

If 10% of terrorists are not “Arab-looking,” that is still no reason not to acknowledge and act upon the fact that the other 90% are.

Why you got to slam our Country so much? If these boys stop even one of us from being killed, it's a good day and a good job.
