As with an unrelated topic, the war against the Islamists (as Lou Dobbs has begun to call it, God bless 'im) I would love to see more efforts on offense, i.e., identifying these evil men and putting them away permanently.
Absolutely. I've told my kids the same thing. "Don't get in the car. If you get in the car, you're for sure dead. If you stay out of the car, you have a chance". Many times, they aren't expecting you to fight back, and it can scare them off. Is this true? I've thought about kick boxing myself.
I've been upset too. I'm on the verge of tears, every time I read about her or hear it on the news. I don't know how parents live through this type of situation. I think I would die.
Agreed, Spookie. I'm contacting the Sheriff's office for information on self defense courses.
See post 86 for a lovely picture of this young girl.
My emphasis is the survival of my child. There will always be evil people in this world who shut have been done away with or put away...but my child needs to know ways to continue her life and get away from an abductor.
I agree with you. When I ask my husband how he can handle what he does without going crazy, he says it is his determination to get these perps and put them away PERMANENTLY and he takes every crime he works on personally. Many in law enforcement are dedicated, hardworking family people. It's the laws and court system that are in the criminals corner.

Absofreakinglutely!!!!! But in the mean time, our babies need to learn how to fight for their lives and survive. God forbid that opportunity ever comes.
Where do you get off saying something like that? I have relatives who are out searching for that child!
There are comments showing up on this thread suggesting something sinister within her family because of perceived "fake" smiles and a vacant look in her eyes. That kind of chit-chat is sick and demeans the genuine horror of this little girls abduction. I stand by what I originally said.
I shouldn't have even dignified your rude, baseless comment with a reply, but I've done my "part" by sending this thread back to the top now, right? So I'll move on.
I'm not the law enforcement person in the family, but from what I gather anything to throw the criminal off -- to get him in any way thinking he's not in total control of the situation is a GOOD thing -- outsmart the criminal using brain or brawn. My husband and my daughters are taking Moi Tai (spelled wrong I'm sure) and my husband has also taught the girls some moves he's learned over the years. REALITY CHECK: We must learn to defend ourselves and to teach our children to defend themselves if we are are to survive the evils that surround us.
Bump to the top.
I had tried OPTIONS before. Thanks!
Brigette began this thread as a way to update freepers about Elizabeth. I don't consider discussing, praying, and hoping as empty chatter.
Also, people just need to talk about the horrors going on in this nation. After 9/11 I found myself compelled to talk it out with people. The same applies here. This is an unimagineable horror that is taking place with a terrifying regularity in this country, and discussions about how to prevent such things, or how to find these perps is theraputic.
Absolutely, they should do whatever it takes to get away. My daughter was 12 when she was attacked on her bike in front of our apartment. Our apt. manager was a big Italian SWAT cop who heard her scream and went running out and literally wiped up the sidewalk with the creep's face. His wife was grinning from ear to ear. "He LOVES to do that," she told us. Elizabeth should have been be so lucky.
