Get lucky with Las Vegas fares starting at $80 R/T! United is offering sale fares between Las Vegas and West Coast cities, and Northwest has announced a similar deal to/from cities in the East and Midwest. Fares to Vegas start as low as $80 round-trip, for flights from Los Angeles (LAX) on United.

America West has also released a Vegas deal, with round-trip flights for two as low as $80 per person. Travel is valid between Las Vegas and cities the airline serves throughout the U.S., plus Mexico City, Mexico.

For all three airlines, travel is valid through September 30. Purchase tickets online only, at least seven days before departure, and by Sunday, June 9.

Sample fares include flights between Las Vegas and:

* Boston for $219: America West
* Dallas (Ft. Worth) for $185: America West
* Detroit (DTW) for $205: Northwest
* Los Angeles (LAX) for $80: United
* Minneapolis for $205: Northwest
* New York (Newark) for $215: America West
* Santa Barbara for $100: United
* Seattle for $160: United
* Tucson for $85: America West
* Washington (Baltimore or Reagan National) for $215: Northwest

The FReeper FRugal Gourmet can find affordable breakfast and lunch restaurants both on and directly off the Strip in Las Vegas.

You may want to eat in our conference's Treasure Island hotel or at one of the other emporiums where fabulous buffets are spread with every goody imaginable, and all you can eat! Things like jumbo shrimp, king crab legs, prime rib carving roasts just for starters. Prices are reasonable and most average around $13-15 per person.

Or you may want to stroll down the avenue to take in the fascinating sights and sounds, and to grab a bite of lunch. You'll find plenty of casual, inexpensive eateries, like the Big Dogs Cafe, the Canal Street Grill (authentic New Orleans food), the Country Inn (down-home cooking such as hamburger and turkey sandwiches, poke chops and chicken pot pie), and the Rib House (traditional Western and Cajun cookin').

What's your fancy? Asian, Cuban, Caribbean or Indian treats? Or Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican or South Western? How about French, American, vegan (oops!), seafood or sizzling steaks? Maybe a pizza joint or an ice cream parlor?

Whatever it is, and whatever you can afford, you'll find it on the Strip. The town really caters to its hungry visitors and many, if not most, restaurants keep their prices low so people will return and hopefully put some nickels in their nickelodeons!

At night, before turning in, perhaps some frosty Margaritas under the stars at an outdoor bistro where you can watch and wonder at the greatest light show on earth, the neon fantasy that is the Las Vegas Strip.

Thanks for the information on the conference Bob. I'm booked and ready to go. I'm looking forward to seeing Jim again as well as Freepers from around the nation. These events are a great way to charge our Feeper batteries. I always come away feeling pumped up and ready to take on the liberals again.

I realize that not everyone can make these events, but those that can will have a great time. The Treasure Island hotel is a four star hotel. We're going first class and paying far less than normal rates.

There will time to socialize on Friday night. We'll be eating and conferencing together all day Saturday. And we'll have down time Saturday night after the scheduled events.

Folks, I'm hoping to see many of you who I've met before, and to meet many Freepers I've only talked to on line before.

This hotel has around six restaurants. It has around seven areas where we can have have a few drinks and talk for hours on end. There's a great pool and several saunas.

This is going to be a class conference. See you there.

Hi Leni. I'm so depressed that I'm going to have to wait several months to attend our conference. I'm looking forward to this so much. Thanks for your comments about the different types of food available on the strip. With airconditioned shuttles that go between hotels, people can travel up and down the strip finding exactly the food they want. But then most of our meals are included in the registration. Take care.

Keep your eyes and ears open, there's a rumor that there's a contest coming that may see someone win a portion of the attendence fees. This is a class event.

Don't forget priceline Bob. People can name some outlandishly low price, and often get it. Folks, give priceline a try. Read the disclaimers closely, but I've used this service several times to obtain incredible rates. I've flown to DC a number of times for $200 round trip. Try entering that price with priceline for a round trip, or even lower depending, and see what you come up with. Be prepared to travel if they can meet your price!

If you want to book a show, I suggest calling the casino "box office" ASAP, (they all have toll free numbers), usually you can get better seating, possibly in the first 6 rows for some smaller theatres. For the bigger name shows like S&R, "O", Mystere,etc., all bets are off!

Stratosphere has a good daytime show, "Viva Las Vegas", and Harrahs also has a good afternoon show, "The Mack King magic/comedy show" rated "g", Coupons are easy to get, usually admission is buy a drink!

"Watch out for your valuables" signs are posted in front of Treasure Island's pirate battle, pickpockets have been known to visit this attraction.

Pretty good fares. I noticed the link you posted contains a reference to an id #. Does someone get a referral fee off these reservations?
