A day in the life of President Bush (photos); 6/6/02

In what can be called a massive restructuring and combining of government agencies, President Bush addressed the country this evening and outlined his proposal for elevating the Department of Homeland Security to a cabinet position. In this new cabinet position, the following agencies will be consolidated into one mission, homeland security: the Coast Guard, the Border Patrol, the Customs Service, Immigration officials, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In addition to sharing information among all of these different agencies, the Department of Homeland Defense will be charged with four tasks:

1. To control our borders and prevent terrorists and explosives from entering our country.

2. To work with state and local authorities to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.

3. To bring together our best scientists to develop technologies that detect biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons, and to discover the drugs and treatments to best protect our citizens.

4. To review intelligence and law enforcement information from all agencies of government, and produce a single daily picture of threats against our homeland. Analysts will be responsible for imagining the worst, and planning to counter it.

The President urged Americans to call their representatives and encourage them to support the plan. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

Nah, our yard guy tries to get the grass cut and the yard work done before it gets too hot. It has been in the high 80's and 90's with a humidity to match lately. Kind of shows us what July and August is going to be like. Our older daughter is going to the lake either tonight or tomorrow with her uncle from TN. He is going to teach his daughter and our 2 grandkids how to waterski. They should have a blast since they are both excellent swimmers and athletes. Hubby is going over tomorrow or Sunday. J and I are going to stay home. Well, we will not get our tv back until next week. These large tvs do not usually have any trouble. Ours just happens to be one of the ones which did. Thankfully, hubby was smart enough to take out the extra warranty coverage. It sure will be nice to get it back. It is hard to watch anything on the little one from across the room. Oh well, the troubles we have!!!!! LAUGH. MamaB

I beg to disagree with you on your statement regarding Senator Clinton - there is NOTHING LITTLE about her (except her brain)

OWF, I thought of you when George spoke in Iowa earlier-- did you see/hear that? He talked about Laura by saying, "She has been a great comfort to America as First Lady & SHE HAS BEEN THE GREAT LOVE OF MY LIFE TO ME"! As he said it, he barely avoided getting choked up--it was a VERY emotional moment. You MUST see it IF you haven't done so.

Oh yeah--Laura couldn't come on the Iowa trip so he was saying how he regretted that. So she wasn't there when he said it but still the moment was oh-so-special. Just was!

Thanks for all the Curves info. I will definitely check this place out as soon as it opens. It's only 3 minutes from my home which would make me more inclined to drop in several times a week. Congrats on Ethan. Love the name!

What is the "Delta"? All that cools things down here is air conditioning and plenty of it.

After I posted last night I thought about Lieberman's Fox appearance a bit more. I don't remember his exact words, but he alluded that this new cabinet position is something he had recommended. Perhaps he's attempting to take credit where none is due?

***Basement floor, sleeping bags, no meatballs..clean-up!........Nevermind.***

Yeah, REALLY! And I SAID that I needed a firm mattress. Just go figure--she's made over a million meatballs and she can't even save ONE for us to split.

Okay, Ohio, here's the REAL deal: I'll come and stay for at least two weeks to keep you busy so you won't have time to worry about your son, Eric. I need a LOT of attention. Coffee and eggs Benedict in bed at noon; a tour of your premises by the head gardener at 2 p.m. so that I can criticize your planning; tea at four with homemade petite fours and crumpets with homemade jam; a relaxing sauna and massage at 6 p.m.; catered dinner with one footman for each guest at 8 p.m.; to be followed by an entertainment by the Boston Symphony in person. What time will you expect me to arrive for your party?

We live near the water...rivers, lagoons, lakes, etc. The Delta breeze is cooler air that makes it's way from the ocean to the Sac area through the rivers. It's glorious.

Your daughter's husband's narrow escape gives me chills. Did your daughter know right away that he was okay?

It took about an hour for her to hear from him that he was OK. She was at work in Alexandria, and of course, they had heard about the attacks at the WTC. Then when they heard about the Pentagon, she tried to call him and couldn't get through. He finally was able to call her on the cell phone - needless to say, things were pretty chaotic in the entire Pentagon area. Meanwhile, in Alexandria, her company shut down and all the schools were being closed, so she ran over to the school to pick up the kids.

In the meantime, out here on the Left Coast, we had heard about the first plane hitting the WTC before 6:00 a.m. We were on our way to work when we heard that a second plane had hit, knew we were under attack. We got to work, and people were starting to gather around TV's in the manager's offices, when word came about the Pentagon being hit. I nearly freaked - tried to call my daughter, but of course, couldn't get through. I actually reached her via e-mail, then she was able to call me to let me know that he was OK.

He was on duty for the next straight 24 hours, got home late Wednesday morning exhausted, reeking of smoke, but ready to go back after a few hours sleep.

Have you seen the "Chillow"? It's been advertised on informercials, but it's now available in retail stores. You chill it during the day in your freezer, and put it between your pillow and pillowcase at night. I think it goes for (what else?) $19.99
