Tribute to Vietnam Veterans....Please click on picture

The great intangible of America's wars beyond logistics, beyond strategy, beyond wonder weapons and Generals, is the spiritual force of its fighting men and women - and that is the force that the USO so serves.

Midway...I consider it destiny, an act of God. We could just as easily have lost it as won it. The torpedo bombers lost all, yet provided the victory. They charged into the fire, most probably knowing they would die.

Midway Resource

Use the Dive Down button.  Once on that page, scroll to the bottom.  There you'll find links to additional resources.  A rather nice link actually.

Well today IS the day I have long awaited.
It will be the 1st time in 33 years that I will be standing a watch
on a military base in uniform again.

As many of you know last week I completed my Coast Guard training
and oral review board and am now a fully qualified Radio Watchstander.

Today a regular Coast Guard person will be free for another
task or training while I replace them on their watch.

I will representing the Coast Guard on the radio, the phone and at the front desk of the base.
Know that I assume this duty with the same passion and love that I have for our country.

You will stay right where you are on the thread.

Please take a moment and Thank a Service Man or Woman.
Just Click on the graphic to send an e-mail.

Thank You sis for all the support you have shown me in my new duties.
Remember back in Oct when I was waiting to hear from the Oregon national Guard about enlisting?
But they said I was too old. LOL
Well then you rode the emotional roller coaster with me
while I waited for approval from the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Thank you my wonderful sister!
I won't be home till about 10PM PST, my monthly meeting is tonight also.

Captain Waynes Hughes, USN (Retired), wrote the book Fleet Tactics in 1986, and revised it in 2000. He discusses the carrier battles of the Pacific and lays out Midway in some detail.

Basically, in 1942, one deck-load strike (all offensive aircraft based on one carrier) could be expected to sink one enemy carrier. Finding the enemy was the critical factor. Allocate too few aircraft to search, and the odds are that the enemy will elude you; allocate too many, and your firepower will be diluted (the Dauntless was a scout-dive bomber).

The Japanese had four carriers; the US had three. Whoever attacked effectively first would win.

More to follow later.

Day 4 - The Phantom Menace

Tha last of the rye bread is gone. Kodi had grabbed the last heel, after a fierce srtuggle I managed to retrieve about a quarter of it. Wih the rye bread gone it can't be long before the dark side of the family begins to show.

After predicting a beautiful week for Rose Festival, we woke this morning to overcast and rain, they say there should be 2 days of this. Coincedence? I think not, even Oregon weeps for my family.

My youngest daughter (Jackie)graduates from 8th grade tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that I can get off of work, but when I mentioned that depending on how much work has to be done to recover from yesterdays problems, the MIL launched into her "Family comes first" lecture. I won the bet, major arguement before the end of the forth day.

Bump and salute for all the troops who served during the Battle of the Midway. Our debt of gratitude is great, we will never forget.

Thanks for this amazing thread. The work and love that goes into all you do, is just amazing. We are so blessed to have Snow Bunny to help us remember. Remembering the way America SHOULD remember!!!

If only the printed media and television/cable media put 1/10th the amount of work into remembering what our soldiers and country have done for us. The sacrifices made.

Thanks Snow Bunny.. you are an angel.

FRegards!!

One awesome thread Snow Bunny....... Thanks for what you do for all veterans and their families.

I like to look at old battles and try and rethink some of the good and bad ect ect ... , how I would have done it yada yada yada..... On my best day, I can not fathom the fear and danger these men faced in that battle. Our electronic world of real time intel and threat assessments was not available to these fighters nor was the logistics chain of resupply we enjoy and "expect" currently available to troops today.

These men of iron and leather were literally "out" there, on their own and did the job. God Bless em all.........

Stay Safe SB !! (((HUG)))
